About Yeonwoo Kim : Yeonwoo Kim is a designer specializing in exhibit and experience design, graphic design, and interactive multimedia. With a background in 3D modeling, web design, and branding, Kim develops engaging visual and spatial experiences that integrate functionality with storytelling. Having worked on diverse projects across industries, Kim focuses on creating adaptable and immersive environments that enhance user interaction. With experience in both independent and collaborative projects, Kim contributes to shaping spaces that serve practical and creative needs. Currently, Kim is exploring opportunities in the design industry while navigating the intersection of design, technology, and user engagement. Design is the bridge between function and experience, shaping the way people interact with the world. It is not just about aesthetics but about problem-solving, creating solutions that improve daily life, evoke emotions, and enhance usability. Every design choice—whether in space, product, or interaction—carries an intent, directing the user’s journey and perception. Good design is intuitive, serving its purpose without unnecessary complexity, allowing people to connect with it naturally. Art, on the other hand, is an expression of thought, emotion, and identity. Unlike design, which often follows constraints and objectives, art exists in a freer space where meaning is subjective and open to interpretation. While design strives to solve problems, art challenges perspectives, evokes feelings, and sparks conversations. However, design and art are not entirely separate. A well-crafted design incorporates artistic principles—composition, balance, contrast, and rhythm—while meaningful art often applies design thinking to create structured and engaging experiences. Both disciplines influence one another, and when combined effectively, they create immersive environments, powerful visuals, and memorable experiences. For me, design is about storytelling through space, form, and interaction. It is about understanding how people live, work, and move through environments and then shaping those experiences in a way that feels seamless and engaging. I believe that great design should not only function well but also create a connection—whether through nostalgia, comfort, excitement, or curiosity. At its core, design is about intention. Every element serves a purpose, whether it is guiding movement, enhancing usability, or evoking an emotional response. When I design, I think about the invisible forces that shape perception—how lighting affects mood, how spatial arrangements direct flow, how textures invite touch. These considerations transform a space or product from something passive into something interactive and engaging. My approach to design always starts with understanding people. What do they need? What do they expect? What surprises them? By answering these questions, I can create experiences that go beyond aesthetics and functionality. I want to design spaces that feel alive, objects that invite interaction, and experiences that leave lasting impressions. In the end, both design and art are about creating meaning. Whether solving a practical problem or expressing a complex idea, both disciplines contribute to shaping culture, emotions, and human experiences. My goal as a designer is to create work that not only meets functional needs but also resonates with people, leaving them with a sense of connection and inspiration.
