About Huiyang Chen : Huiyang (Sherry) Chen is a multidisciplinary designer, researcher, and product designer working at the intersection of human–computer interaction, digital experience, and creative prototyping. With a background in Product Design from Parsons School of Design and ongoing graduate research in HCI at the University of Michigan School of Information, she integrates user experience design, 3D prototyping, and digital visualization. Huiyang advises hyper-growth U.S. startups on product strategy and interactive design, and currently designs healthcare-focused digital products at IPG Health (an Omnicom company). Her work has received multiple international awards and has been exhibited with NYCxDesign, and she actively contributes to the design community as a certified juror for global design awards and designathons. STATEMENT OF ART:My name is Huiyang (Sherry) Chen, and I am a designer and researcher whose practice bridges human-computer interaction, product design, and digital experience. As a current researcher at the University of Michigan and designer at IPG Health, my work explores how design can create systems, tools, and environments that promote empathy, accessibility, and sustainability. My foundation in 3D prototyping, material experimentation, and user experience design, developed through formal design education and applied research, continues to shape a methodology grounded in both curiosity and precision. Through years of collaboration with clients, peers, and students, I have learned that design extends far beyond the creation of beautiful objects. It is an act of interpretation, empathy, and responsibility. My experience across consulting, research, and critique has taught me that meaningful design requires a holistic vision, one that harmonizes aesthetic intention with societal purpose. The most impactful work emerges when designers balance innovation with inclusivity, ensuring that what we create not only functions but also contributes to the shared well-being of the communities it touches.
