Having lived across the world, she brings a global perspective and empathy to her work. Her research merges materials science, biology, technology, and design to develop scalable biomaterials for a more sustainable future. Inspired by nature’s ecosystem, Shonglin creates materials that integrate seamlessly into existing systems, fostering adaptability and sustainability.
Drawing from traditional arts and crafts, she incorporates time-tested methods into her creations, bridging the past and present to develop innovative solutions, often from sources like waste systems. Her designs resonate with today's users while honoring the craftsmanship of the past. Before becoming a biomaterials designer, Shonglin worked as a fashion designer for eight years.
She holds an MSc in Design for the Fashion System from Politecnico di Milano, Italy, with a semester at Fashion Institute of Technology NYC, USA. She also earned a B. Des. in Fashion Design from FDDI, India. Outside of her research, Shonglin enjoys styling her friends, creating embroidered jewelry and exploring new recipes from diverse cuisines.
