He enjoys exploring the unique characteristics of various materials and using them to create designs. For his graduation project, Shih Wei decided to work with candles as his starting point, aiming to capture their natural beauty while experimenting to create a series of lamps. This project also symbolizes the light produced by burning candles. Material experimentation is an exciting journey for Shih Wei, allowing him to learn about different materials, understand their properties, and see failures as valuable learning experiences that often lead to breakthroughs. Looking ahead, Shih Wei aims to further excel in the field of material experimentation, pushing boundaries and innovating continuously.
For me, art is the expression of the message the artist wants to convey through their work, allowing the audience to engage with the artwork and feel the essence of the author. However, design, compared to art, is more rational. In the creative process, whether it's improving based on identified problems or encouraging public discussion on certain issues through design, these are all factors that contribute to the advancement of society. Additionally, I see art and design as two intersecting circles. Although they have their own independent aspects, they also overlap at times. These two complement each other, sparking diverse creativity and allowing people to see different voices in the world, ultimately making the world a better place.
