View Larger Image and Additional Photos of Tina WaruAbout Tina Waru : Founder & CEO of the Global Indigenous Co and not for profit organisation Indigenous Runway Project in Melbourne, Australia, which has gained national and international recognition. Receiving over 7500 expressions of interest and supported over 1800 young Indigenous people. We were nominated for the 2014 and 2016 National Australian Reconciliation Award and Best Practice in 2016 for the Aboriginal Education Strategy in Australia. I went on to pioneer the world’s first Global Indigenous Management establishing Australia’s first Indigenous Runway platform for First Nations designers. For the past ten years the Global Indigenous Runway has featured as part of the Melbourne Fashion Festival and Melbourne Fashion Week.
When I think about art, I think about all of the things that are significant to my tribe and people such as our rich cultural history, our cultural symbols, art and treasures, our language and our ancestral robes and natural textiles. When I bring in the element of design the images begin to morph into something strong and beautiful.
