| STATEMENT OF ART: Wherever I go, I'm checking out the design of a building, or a room, or a city, or a piece of furniture, or the floors or walls, or ceilings. When people take the care and time needed to design their intended with art in mind, and with art completely involved, the final product will spiritually feed the souls of all viewers. Art in design is inspiring, and calming, and excitement, and coziness and interest. Several years ago, I started to analyze the American kitchen, and concluded that the majority of kitchens, especially in houses built in the last 100 years, have been designed by men, but women of all ages are the primary users of the American kitchens, with a responsibility to create delicious meals in kitchens built by men, who, let's face it, do not understand the needs of women. They built them to fulfill the requirement that all houses need kitchens. But there are major flaws which I will name now: 1) The cabinets are too high, some all the way to the ceiling. If the woman wants to get a platter in the top cabinet, she must stand on a chair, then stand on the counter to reach to the top to get her platter, which is stowed way up because it is only for special occasions. So, the woman now faces possible major danger, like slipping on the counter as she reaches for the platter, and then holding the heavy platter, while gingerly attempting to safely climb down from the counter to the chair, carefully trying not to fall and crack something, and I don't mean the platter...the risk is multiplied if the woman is disabled or if she is elderly. If she wants to prevent any such falls, she will just not store anything in those upper cabinets, and it turns into wasted space. 2) The lights in kitchens are can-lights for the most part, which lack all artistic design. 3) The man, thinking practicality, puts the least artistic countertops, flooring, cabinets, and fixtures into what he considers a "necessary" space. If he was the primary cook in the family, he would demand a whole lot more ease of use and convenience in this necessary space. But women need also the added attraction of "beauty" in their environment. Therefore, my submission for interior design and art is my new kitchen, which I designed myself for ease of use, and every care taken for the woman to stay safe and to do her cooking in a lovely atmosphere, very womanly, very stylish. This is interior design at its delightfully freshest and welcoming. The following points are now included in this designer's space: 1) A 36" range with a strong exhaust fan...for the huge meals she makes several times every year for crowds of people. 2) Cabinets which are low enough for the average-height women to reach the top shelf. 3) Artistic porcelain backsplash all the way to the ceiling. 4) Over and under cabinet lighting 5) A deep, wide, single quartz sink that holds all large platters, etc. 6) A beautiful island with overhang quartz roomy enough for 5 people. 7) Room enough at the kitchen entrance for a large family of 10-12 at an 8-foot table with chairs, if needed. 8) Easy-clean porcelain flooring throughout. 9) All soft-close cabinets and drawers. 10) Decorative ceiling light and over-the-sink light. 11) Space hidden beside the refrigerator for a closed trash can with foot-open design, and near the range when dicing is done to put into pans and the scraps easily go into the can. 12) Easy-clean and care quartz countertops In closing, I will add that all the considerations that women need to be happy, are the same needs that the elderly have and also people with disabilities or illness. The kitchen I have created is innovative, being a kinder, gentler room, with safety considered first and foremost, and that brings happiness, cheer, and good digestion to those lucky enough to cook and eat in such a place.
