About Xinran Ma : I am Xinran, designer, mentor, and writer based in New York. Nothing is more fulfilling to me than helping people change their lives for the better. Over the past decade, I have had the privilege of helping thousand of designers through webinars, articles, books, and 1-on-1 coffee chats. I have dedicated time almost every week to talk with aspiring designers on topics including design thinking, career growth, career transition, design craft, product design, interaction design, user experience, etc. I was honored to be recognized as Super Mentor in Design by ADPList, out of mentors from over 40 countries. As the Recipient of Literary Titan Gold Book Award, my book The Minimalist Career Changer was the #1 Best Seller and #1 New Release in multiple categories on Amazon. Additionally, I served as a guest lecturer at the University of Colorado and a speaker at UX Camp. My work has been featured in leading publications including Designboom, UX Collective, ArchDaily, American Illustration, Society of Illustrators, 3x3 Magazine, and Bustler. One of my mottos is "It’s never too late to be whoever you want to be"—with a multidisciplinary design background, from architecture to illustration to product design, I always encourage designers to have the courage to dream big and try out new things. Both design and art contribute to human expression and innovation. Design is the deliberate creation of solutions, while art is the subjective expression of creativity. Design is a purposeful arrangement of elements and principles to achieve a specific goal. It is the art of problem-solving, informed by aesthetics and guided by a set of rules that dictate harmony, balance, and efficiency. Design is everywhere, from the layout of a digital interface to the structure of a building. On the other hand, art is a more subjective and emotive form of expression. It allows people to explore and communicate their ideas, feelings, and perspectives. It can be deeply personal, reflecting the artist's inner world, rather than being strictly guided by rules.
