About Sofia Canda : Sofia Canda is a cultural practitioner and researcher specializing in inclusive museology, contemporary art, and socially engaged design. With a multidisciplinary background in advertising, humanities, and graphic design, she has contributed to the development and implementation of inclusive practices in museum spaces across Europe and beyond. Her work spans academic research, public exhibitions, and educational initiatives focused on social sustainability and accessibility. Sofia has collaborated with institutions such as the University of Malaga, the Russian Museum of Malaga, and the State Hermitage Museum, the Prado Museum. She actively participates in international conferences, publishes in academic contexts, and engages in projects that integrate marginalized communities into the cultural landscape. Her approach emphasizes creating equitable, participatory cultural environments that foster belonging and mental well-being. STATEMENT OF ART:Art and design are, for me, tools of empathy. They are not just about aesthetics or function—they are active agents of social transformation. Art is the space where imagination meets the human condition, and design is its disciplined counterpart, shaping environments, objects, and experiences to serve people meaningfully. My perspective on both is deeply rooted in inclusivity and accessibility. I believe that the true value of design lies in its ability to break barriers and foster equity—especially in cultural environments. Working within museum spaces, curating exhibitions, and participating in inclusive design projects have taught me that design can be a catalyst for emotional healing, social cohesion, and educational empowerment. Art should provoke thought, elicit emotion, and open dialogues. It reflects not only beauty, but also conflict, diversity, and resilience. Through my work with underrepresented communities and by integrating accessibility into exhibitions, I’ve come to understand that the museum is a designed space—a form of spatial design—that matters equally to the public and to the designer. In this sense, the museum becomes a potential sanctuary: a place where all voices deserve to be heard, felt, and represented. Design is the interface between intention and experience. Whether curating an inclusive exhibition or developing adaptive materials, I see it as a responsibility—one that must continually evolve to reflect human diversity and societal change. Motto: Every design decision is a social decision.
