About Zuanne-Marie van der Merwe : Benjamin Franklin said: “Either write something worth reading or do something worth writing.” I want to do both, that I know, but I am far from knowing who I am. My life is a spiritual pilgrimage, an in-depth analysis where I investigate and explore all aspects, dimensions and facets of being human. I'm still struggling with existential questions to make sense of life and death and seek to find the ultimate purpose of my existence before death finds me in an unknown way. What I do know is: I don’t mind being called an activist. I like the idea of being an defender for human rights because I’d like to see social and political change, justice and wellbeing for everyone; but I’m against violence of any kind, for any reason what so ever. Although a South-African woman, I am not a feminist, not in the true sense of the word, because I do not feel deprived as a woman and therefore have no need to fight for my female rights. The description feminine-activist appeals to me. The words ‘pursuation to change’ makes better sense than force. I am passionate about living a worthwhile life. I must make a difference. My life must mean something and contribute to something good. My goals are to be in harmony with the natural law. I'm aiming for each decision, every behaviour, be supremely important, to let it contribute in a meaningful way to the vision I have for my life as a whole. When I depart from this world, to be with my Creator, I want people to say, with honesty: “She stood for peace, truth, kindness, humbleness and commitment – she was a true follower of Christ.” STATEMENT OF ART:A nurse in blood and bone, I am also an artist who understand the joy colour and design can bring. A masterpiece has more than one line, more than one colour. A painting needs all the elements of line and colour to make a sensible picture, but really that rule can be applied to everything in life. The line on a canvas, like the mark one makes in life has to be followed up with genuine efforts of wanting to make a beautiful picture - a difference in this world.
