About Maria Elena Moncada : Elena Moncada, when studying industrial design, discovered her passion for the jewelry trade, since then, she has been building a career for more than 30 years as a designer and jeweler. Working since her study, she has made his own creations of silver and gems. She has won 7 national jewelry awards and has taught jewelry and design at trade schools and at ITESO University. In addition to having worked as a jewelry designer for other brands and workshops in Guadalajara, Mexico. STATEMENT OF ART:From 2014 until now, Elena started a new jewelry brand with her twin sister, Isabel Moncada: "CUATA jewelry" in which the guiding thread of her work is duality, expressing the polarity of her personalities, which, by joining, They complement each other. Together they experiment with natural materials such as bone, deer horn, horsehair, among others. I am focused on the concept, and transmitting my ideas from my own poetic language. It is in my DNA, the love of change, and constant transformation; growth, the endless development of my job, which seeks to make the materials speak its own language in communion with my own. It is very exciting to me, working with natural materials, that gives the earth: metals, stones, wood, bone, horn and leather, which have the possibility of transforming without changing its essence; only to highlight its beauty and express the intrinsic value of its antiquity on the planet. Metals have the beautiful quality of transforming into what we want because they are noble and project strength, I am interested in metals and their alchemy, that is an ancient practice and a philosophical discipline that combines elements of chemistry, metallurgy, physics, Astrology, mysticism and art. On the spiritual level of alchemy, alchemists had to transmute their own soul before transforming metals, they had to be purified, prepared by prayer and fasting. The precious stones took so long to form and in such extreme conditions of nature that, they managed to be rare and beautiful, with colors, reflections, sparkles and impressive shades. Bone, horn and leather remind us that we are part of the animal kingdom; they are part of us and were the first materials that man used to adorn his body and to create the first utilitarian objects that gave rise to the development and transformation of humanity. Each one of my pieces, is made using traditional and ancestral jewelry techniques; one of the most beautiful and oldest trades of humanity. For me, making a jewel is an artistic expression, it is a communication form, It is the opportunity to know my own way of perceiving the world through my work. When somebody acquire one of my pieces, It is identifying with my essence, Is somebody who like my work and recognize it. It is an honor for me, to share my joy and satisfaction of living with that person. So personal and intimate, it is for me to make a piece of jewelry. It is what give me momentum to continue doing each of my pieces with love and dedication; They are jewels made by people and are for each person. They are not industrial parts and will never be industrializable, nor commercial. They are timeless and perennial pieces. My work is seeking to become an important part in the lives of the people who carry them, to charge them with their own energy and make them their own, like a talisman. That's why I make them with natural materials because they are receptive and energetic.
