Her work engages in emotional needs among the fast-paced, technology-driven human behavior and highly isolated society. Through the kinetic sculpture, electronic installation, and video she utilizes inanimate materials to construct living motion.
STATEMENT OF ART:I’m a designer and artist, born and raised in the south part of China, lives in Chicago currently. My works mainly focus on interaction and exhibition design. I use kinetic sculpture, electronic installation, and video as a medium to realize my ideas. For me, each individual is a temporary and dynamic combination of different elements in the world. From this point of view, I regard myself as the observer and the observed. And through the self-observation from a certain time and state as a start point, to reflect on the issues of society from individual emotional needs, family structure, and social environment.
I'm specifically interested in how certain movement of mechanical process evokes people’s emotion. Robopet is a group of interactive furniture with personality. This work deconstructs the emotional needs of people living alone for social activities, family and intimate relationships, and transforms them into interactive machines of different forms. Through these different ways of interaction, to show the mechanical behavior of human emotion stimulation and expression, but also the limits, of robotics technologies in everyday life.
