About William Salty Solterbeck : Mr. William Salty Solterbeck considers himself an envisioneer, able to conceive, design, engineer, and build prototypes of non-existent home and office furnishings, fixtures, and space utilization solutions. He views frustrating and ineffective products as opportunities to invent. He is good at envisioning What Could Be. He is able to think beyond the bounds of what already exists, and is able to imagine artistic form and function solutions to envisioned ends. STATEMENT OF ART:My approach to design is to apply unbounded creativity to alleviate everyday frustrations with status quo products. There is likely room for improvement in every product or process. I consider design as more closely related to product form and function. My designs are born from disenchantment and frustration with current products, with an aim to meet the “wants and needs” that comprise a solution to the status quo shortfalls. My process is to begin with a blank slate with no preconceived notion of form or design whatsoever. Rather, I begin by writing down what I consider the ideal qualities and features, then engineer, design, and build a prototype that satisfies those wants and needs. If I can’t find a product with the features I want on the market, I design and build such a product. My approach to art is to apply free thinking, unbounded imagination, to a design in development. I consider art as more closely related to product exquisiteness, elegance, extraordinary appearance to create a WOW factor.
