During her studies Ashleigh specialised in digital design for fashion and her work is often complimented with hand / machine embroidery & embellishments. The unique kitsch aesthetic which is apparent in her design work is inspired by her love for colour and all things nostalgic. Since graduating in July 2019, Ashleigh has been working on setting up her own fashion accessories brand, Space Punk Design.
STATEMENT OF ART:My personal perception on art is the freedom to do anything. Art has no boundaries or restrictions, only you yourself set those restrictions. Once you break through that you'll find that creativity is never ending. I personally struggled with this myself when I started out, but my university tutors pushed me to explore things I'd otherwise ignore and from this I found myself and what defines me as an artist and designer. I enjoy seeing an exhibition and not understanding it, why did that artist have a chair with a piece of fabric draped over it in the middle of the room? That's art, each person had their own thoughts and feelings- for the artist it could depict an emotion like loneliness, but to a viewer I could make the feel calm and relaxed.
