Design is highly connected to the designer him/herself. It's a personal thing. And it represents the designer's mood, attitude, way of thinking. Realize it or not, all of those would translate in the design naturally.
To create or design something good is not as easy as snapping your finger. There are processes that you should go through. And as a designer, you have to love each process and for me, acting as if the design you're going to make is your own child, helps me focus everytime.
You have to love your own design, your own art. Don't give in to peer pressure or what others like. If there's one job that let me be free to express myself, I'd have to say, being a designer would. Which is one of the reason why I pursue this path
