About Rosalba Balsamo : I am a designer who wants to create jewels and objects that improve people's vote, not only in terms of function. I believe that my work stands out for being both innovative and strong without compromising functionality. I love finding the beauty in new materials that are not necessarily designed for a jewel but that become precious thanks to the jewel, as for my Black Sharp collection presented at Design Miami Basel in 2015 and then at the Vicenza Jewel Museum and the Mudec Museum in Milan, where 3D printing in polyamide was made precious thanks to the post-manual intervention of the pieces that were hand-worked, one by one and painted to obtain a new, more refined skin that exalts the angularity of the shapes. With my work I would like women to feel free to wear something different from a diamond without feeling less beautiful or less "precious" STATEMENT OF ART:I am a designer. Through language slips ranging from sculpture to the design of furnishing elements to theatrical scenography, then I land also to jewelery, a design jewel that distinguishes me as one of the best designers on the Italian scene in this sector. In fact, a careful analysis of contemporary jewelry highlights context slips and the mixing of very different disciplinary fields such as design, sculpture, architecture, decorative arts, anthropology and fashion. In my work I use methods and processes of design action, which allow me to create unique pieces or numbered editions and which above all, as far as jewelery is concerned, try to conjugate design technology and design to the goldsmith tradition, using the most appropriate techniques from time to time, from lost wax to construction, from chemical blanking of metals to laser cuts, to new design technologies, such as Rhinoceros 3D, without ever penalizing the functional characteristics of traditional jewelry. The design of my latest jewels is increasingly addressed both to research on form and body and to industrialization, to the weight of materials and available technologies, and also, which is not always very easy, in search of goldsmiths and not only, available to experiment with new techniques, even if they are often pieces that will not follow a mass production, and therefore not always very convenient in terms of cost and time.
