| STATEMENT OF ART: My initial introduction to sculpture was through an Associate Degree in Furniture. Undertaking this degree sparked an interest in elements of design and its relationship to the human figure, and a later degree in the Bachelor of Contemporary Arts enabled me to refine ideas related to anthropomorphism and furniture design. I now work as a full time designer/sculptor undertaking furniture commissions and individual speculative sculptures that continue to explore my passion for form using a variety of mediums including composite woods, epoxy resins, metal casting, plaster and paint. My works are intended to trigger the human desire to touch and caress. This greatly influences the way in which I create and finish my art/design, creating forms that are both tactile and organic so as to stimulate the innate desire to hold/touch the art. Since finishing my Arts Degree I have over the last couple of years been developing functional work that reflects elements of my sculptures/art creating a signature of the maker linking both principals of my practice.
