The excitement of invention seems to be a power source for the fabric-oriented artist. Angela's passion for creating new designs flows from decades of experience in the fashion industry. Thus, are her hands enabled to transform the pictures in her mind into the physical form that others can see and enjoy. Another aspect of this lady of peace is her spiritual belief; drawing inspiration from the lives of the saints. She has devoted years of her life and much of her resources to helping people living in poverty and/or homelessness. Art and design both draw on the same technical elements – drawing, composition, color – for the end-result. However, art can be interpreted in many ways, as it is dependent on the eye of the beholder. Art employs human creative skill and imagination, as does design, however art is created primarily for its own intrinsic value in terms of beauty or emotional power. Design has a more practical, problem-solving aspect to it. Art creates a distinct impression or emotion where the observer ponders the artistic work deeply, is emotionally moved by it, and draws conclusions based on their feelings and perceptions. Artists convey the truth through their art, which sends a message that expresses and reflects the mood or emotions of the artist. Art can also be simply beautiful, and enjoyed for its own sake – for example, a painting of a vase of flowers, which is aimed purely at the aesthetic sense of the observer. Design, which can also evoke emotion, is generally about solving a problem, and narrowing it down to make it useful with a specific function as the end-result. If you add aesthetics into the design equation, it can be appreciated for its looks as well. However, design must be functional first and foremost. As a fashion designer, textile artist and seamstress, I think about using both art and design in my work. Considering the aesthetics of the body, for me it is also about enhancing the beauty and dignity of a human being. As a creative person, I am inspired by the saints, nature and all of creation. I notice things around me from this standpoint, and I gather information and think of possibilities for my work. I put ideas into action by creatively combining art and design to produce wearable garments, which – while always bearing in mind the beauty and dignity of a human being – also take into consideration practical elements like hygiene and protection, as well as adornment. The end-product is a design which has been transformed into Wearable Art. God has gifted me in a variety of ways and has inspired me that I might use my gifts and talent courageously by combining creativity and spirituality. My motto is: ‘Look creatively nice on the outside. Be spiritually kind on the inside.’ ORGANIZATION: Fashion Arena EDUCATION: 2016- Textile Art, Genesis Creations, Toowoomba, Australia. 2000 - Certificate IV Fashion Design & Technology, Cairns Australia. 1994 - Clothing Manufacturing, Australia. 1994 - Millinery, Australia. 1966 - 1969 State High School, Babinda.
