Profile: Renata Rubim

About Renata Rubim : Renata Rubim has been designing carpets since she was 4. She has always been in love with surfaces, colors and compositions. Born in Rio de Janeiro, spent the teenage years in Porto Alegre and studied design in São Paulo. In the 1970's, created a large portfolio in handrafted carpets, with exhibitions in Brazil and in the US. In the 1980's, she was awarded a Fulbright scholarship, and then studied at the Rhode Island School of Design, where she discovered the term "Surface Design". Brought the surface design to Brazil, contributing to the inclusion of this new activity in the domestic market. "Designin the Surface" is her first book about it, which is already in the Third Edition. Renata has received several awards, the most important being two 2012 and one 2014 IF Awards in Munich.
