The definition of art and design has been argued over for a long time and continues to be debated. Many definitions consider art and design as two different entities and their difference has long been a running debate. However, my definition of art is very fluid and massive and I see no difference in art and design. For me, everything we see, we look at is art. Even the existence of our universe is an artistic process which started out like an abstract painting on a blank canvas painted by the splashes of colors of Big bang. Art is a part of our daily lives and encompasses us continuously. From the intricate pattern on the surface of your latte to the interior of your office, art is always right there in front of us whether we choose to see it or walk away from it. It makes our life interesting by making things worth looking at far more than a second by appealing to our own inactive creativity. For instance, a painting makes us look hard at the color, technique, composition. Art sucks us in, draws us into its world some way. It acts as a tangible form to one’s imagination, feelings, philosophy, religion or ideas that can’t be expressed in words. It helps us see something in a new and innovative way. I try to look at things with an artistic eye. How would I paint that? What kind of feeling I am getting from these colors? Even though my definition of art is quite broad and encompasses art in pretty much any form whether it is in the work of a carpenter, singer, painter, bass guitarist but at the same time doesn’t mean that all forms are art. Art has to fulfill its purpose and communicate something or else it is in visual term simply just a soulless picture or object. For me personally, art fulfills its purpose of communicating by acting as an escapade. It takes me to a place where I have the complete freedom to picture my life the way I want it to be, the way I wish to see the world and the ideas I wish to put on a paper with colors when my mind fails to express it through words. Art helps me in understanding myself better through the memories and experiences that have shaped me, as the person I am at present and the part of me which tries to escape the reality through superpowers and superheroes we wish to see but fail when we try to grasp it. It reflects my understanding of the world I live in teaching me how to see a little bit more than I could have without it. It is a perfect go-to destination where my imagination runs wild without any restrictions and boundaries, where my ideas of black and white become the idea of a sketch which might be beautiful or might not make sense at all.
