Designer Interview

Interview with Dazhaus at Tuesday 10th of March 2015

FS: Could you please tell us more about your art and design background? What made you become an artist/designer? Have you always wanted to be a designer?
D: My base in the world of art comes from my training in architecture, like any good artist has to have extensive training in the fine arts. I believe that an artist is not converted but was born and I think that was my case. I always wanted to be a designer but focus on the architecture always stayed in second place and the crisis gave me this oportunidad.

FS: Can you tell us more about your company / design studio?
D: The dazhaus furniture brand began in 2011 under my sister and I Oriente . In 2014 we decided to mount the study of architecture and furniture with society dazhaus slp . It is a company registered in Madrid, Spain .

FS: What is "design" for you?
D: The design for me is to make consumers an experience (artistic , cultural , sensory )

FS: What kinds of works do you like designing most?
D: First I like good design , then we would enter tastes but the bottom is a good design with good finishes and influence of great artists in history.

FS: What is your most favorite design, could you please tell more about it?
D: My favorite design is the furniture that present titled Scale 1/100 that reinterprets the essence of everything learned . If I have to talk about other artists stay with Bauhaus designs or Chicago skyscrapers of early twentieth centuries

FS: What was the first thing you designed for a company?
D: While preparing this collection , people watching and other prototypes before presenting it and we commissioned furniture that were in the direction of our furniture. The first were two black tables outside.

FS: What is your favorite material / platform / technology?
D: My favorite materials are Steel, Wood and Concrete . I love working at first with models and then we enter the computer design .

FS: When do you feel the most creative?
D: I feel more creative when I design evening but especially in Menorca ( Balearic Islands) overlooking the sea

FS: Which aspects of a design do you focus more during designing?
D: Proportion , purity and finishes.

FS: What kind of emotions do you feel when you design?
D: The design makes you forget the outside world and focus on the essence of art

FS: What kind of emotions do you feel when your designs are realized?
D: On the one hand I feel satisfaction with the work achieved but like any artist always think it can still be improved

FS: What makes a design successful?
D: A design is successful if it is beautiful , works well and its design will be good over the years.

FS: When judging a design as good or bad, which aspects do you consider first?
D: The first one is that it is good design, this well finished , and taking into account the history of design . Because to make a design that go down in history must know very well the story.

FS: From your point of view, what are the responsibilities of a designer for society and environment?
D: Artists, designers are culture and culture is the first outbreak in society so we have to lead by example is fixed .

FS: How do you think the "design field" is evolving? What is the future of design?
D: The design is in a golden age, in the past as the Bauhaus , or expressionism design was for a few. Today everyone wants to design now our responsibility to educate them it is a good design.

FS: When was your last exhibition and where was it? And when do you want to hold your next exhibition?
D: The Expo last was in Vigo ( a city of Spain ) . Our next exhibition we wish it were in Switzerland.

FS: Where does the design inspiration for your works come from? How do you feed your creativity? What are your sources of inspirations?
D: For my work I have a great inspiration in the Swiss and Japanese architecture. My inspiration is fed traveling a lot around the world. My inspiration is the architecture in many cases.

D: I would describe it as an architectural style based on various styles , Bauhaus , rationalism , modernism.

FS: Where do you live? Do you feel the cultural heritage of your country affects your designs? What are the pros and cons during designing as a result of living in your country?
D: I live in Madrid, Spain . If I think Madrid is a city rich in culture and perhaps the best museums in the world of which I often go for inspiration ( Reina Sofia Museum, Prado Museum and Thyssen Museum) .

The pros is that Spain is a country of artists and entrepreneurs, against the crisis with no customers . And indeed the most important thing for an artist is a good customer.

FS: How do you work with companies?
D: We work with companies or special normally or if you want furniture from our collection orders.

FS: What are your suggestions to companies for working with a designer? How can companies select a good designer?
D: I think working as a freelancer for a company is the best as percentage of selling designs . A company to select a good designer I recommend you look at Spain which is full of good designers out of work and wanting to work.
