Interview with Bien Seramik Design Team at Tuesday 20th of March 2018 ![]() FS: Could you please tell us about your experience as a designer, artist, architect or creator? BSDT: My industry is based on past 22 years. I started work life in Eczacibasi / Vitra. I am currently working as a Design Director at Bien Seramik. I have won 12 International Design Awards until this day. FS: How did you become a designer? BSDT: I've always been interested in Fine Arts since I was a kid. In high school I decided to be a designer. Later I entered and won the examination of the Faculty of Fine Arts. I am originally an industrial ceramic designer. FS: What are your priorities, technique and style when designing? BSDT: When designing, I begin by sketching first. After completing my sketches, my computer designs are my models. I render my modeled finished designs ready for rendering afterwards. I get inspiration from nature in all my projects. FS: Which emotions do you feel when designing? BSDT: First of all, I love to design. When I get inspiration for design, I feel a high energy in my hands. I like to discover something new most when designing. If you think you are the first to see him and witness the birth. FS: What particular aspects of your background shaped you as a designer? BSDT: As a designer, the first person I was impressed with was a famous sculptor. He is my teacher, Prof. Dr. Tankut Öktem. FS: What is your growth path? What are your future plans? What is your dream design project? BSDT: In my future plans, there are intelligent bathrooms that are friendly to nature. FS: What are your advices to designers who are at the beginning of their career? BSDT: They need to work hard. Where possible, design competitions must be involved. FS: You are truly successful as a designer, what do you suggest to fellow designers, artists and architects? BSDT: My suggestions, architects and designers are designing everything from nature to observing and preserving natural resources in the best possible way. Besides that they have plenty of work to do. FS: What is your day to day look like? BSDT: As a designer, I make a lot of sketches every day. Sketching makes me feel better. I do painting between my other works. FS: How do you keep up with latest design trends? To what extent do design trends matter? BSDT: I review the latest designs. Trend colors are always of my interest. I visit fairs and exhibitions to follow all these trends. FS: How do you know if a product or project is well designed? How do you define good design? BSDT: First of all, look for ergonomics. A good design should be friendly to the environment and the user. FS: How do you decide if your design is ready? BSDT: In order for good design to be available, manufacturability must also be designed. The design which is suffering from the production is not a good design. FS: What is your biggest design work? BSDT: My biggest design work is Lotus for bathroom design. I was inspired by the lotus flower when designing this design. All parts of the progeny were made in the same form and production was transferred. FS: Who is your favourite designer? BSDT: Karim Rashid and Philip Starck. FS: Would you tell us a bit about your lifestyle and culture? BSDT: I am born in Istanbul. Istanbul has always inspired me. My style has embraced western cultures. Besides that, I am fed from Anatolian culture mosaic. FS: Would you tell us more about your work culture and business philosophy? BSDT: I work as a design manager at the head of Bien ceramic design team. Me and my design team are always very busy and flexible time. FS: What are your philanthropic contributions to society as a designer, artist and architect? BSDT: As a designer, I believe that we have preserved the natural water resources of the planet we live in as our greatest contributor. I provide water saving functions in my designs. FS: What positive experiences you had when you attend the A’ Design Award? BSDT: I won the international designer title. This has made me known worldwide. I encourage every designer to participate in such design competitions.
