Interview with Caline morcos interiors at Friday 12th of July 2024 FS: Could you please tell us more about your art and design background? What made you become an artist/designer? Have you always wanted to be a designer? CMI: I used to love drawing a lot when I was a kid, I was also fascinated by colors and sophisticated textures Yes I always wanted to be a designer FS: Can you tell us more about your company / design studio? CMI: My studio is based in beirut, lebanon, it's still a startup which focuses mainly on hospitality, retail & kids design FS: What is "design" for you? CMI: For me, design is a multifaceted discipline that goes beyond aesthetics to encompass functionality, problem-solving, and human experience FS: What kinds of works do you like designing most? CMI: Retail hospitality and branding FS: What makes a design successful? CMI: authenticity, emotions, innovation, creativity and functionality FS: When judging a design as good or bad, which aspects do you consider first? CMI: elegancy, sophistication and authenticity FS: From your point of view, what are the responsibilities of a designer for society and environment? CMI: Designers hold significant responsibilities toward society and the environment: Sustainable Practices, ethical design, social responsibility, innovation for good, public safety and community engagement FS: How do you think the "design field" is evolving? What is the future of design? CMI: The design field is evolving rapidly due to advancements in technology, changing societal needs, and a growing emphasis on sustainability and inclusivity. Digital transformation such as AI, virtual and augmented reality, 3D printing...sustainability, inclusivity, human centered design, health & wellbeing, ethical & responsible design, remote & flexible work. FS: Where does the design inspiration for your works come from? How do you feed your creativity? What are your sources of inspirations? CMI: Nature, art and culture, research, traveling and exploration, fairytales, my kids FS: How would you describe your design style? What made you explore more this style and what are the main characteristics of your style? What's your approach to design? CMI: Fresh and poetic.. sometimes sophisticated Research and Inspiration: Starting with thorough research and gathering inspiration from various sources, including nature, art, and other design disciplines.
