Interview with Yi Tung Hung at Saturday 17th of June 2023 FS: Could you please tell us more about your art and design background? What made you become an artist/designer? Have you always wanted to be a designer? YTH: it's quite a journey for me to become a fashion designer. In fact, I'm not used to be called as a designer yet. I graduate from fashion design apartment, but I don't think I could design clothes until I made this collection last year. FS: Can you tell us more about your company / design studio? YTH: It's just a start-up. FS: What is "design" for you? YTH: For me, "design" it's not only art, most important is that it can be used, and it helps people in lives. FS: What kinds of works do you like designing most? YTH: Fashion FS: What was the first thing you designed for a company? YTH: Principle, flexibility and a comfort environment for creativity. FS: What is your favorite material / platform / technology? YTH: as long as it can be used on clothes, but as I said, it has to be comfort when people wear it on. FS: When do you feel the most creative? YTH: under the circumstance with no pressure. FS: Which aspects of a design do you focus more during designing? YTH: the whole picture and the details on clothing. FS: What kind of emotions do you feel when you design? YTH: powerful and existence FS: What kind of emotions do you feel when your designs are realized? YTH: "so unexpected" "surprise" "sense of achievement" FS: What makes a design successful? YTH: used by others FS: When judging a design as good or bad, which aspects do you consider first? YTH: for fashion, with no doubt, it must be good-looking or not. BUT ONLY for fashion aspect. FS: From your point of view, what are the responsibilities of a designer for society and environment? YTH: I fully believe that once the works are published. Designers have responsibilities for considering the situation of the public emulation and whether the product is environment and animal friendly. FS: When was your last exhibition and where was it? And when do you want to hold your next exhibition? YTH: a show held by my school last year; It's flexible, i didn't think that much, but i'm preparing the next collection this summer. FS: Where does the design inspiration for your works come from? How do you feed your creativity? What are your sources of inspirations? YTH: it comes from my dreams and my intuition; i need to sleep at least 10 hour every day, for me, it's my meditation time. FS: How would you describe your design style? What made you explore more this style and what are the main characteristics of your style? What's your approach to design? YTH: suit mix and match. I'm a woman, but I love to wear men clothes, it makes me feel comfort and free. FS: Where do you live? Do you feel the cultural heritage of your country affects your designs? What are the pros and cons during designing as a result of living in your country? YTH: i live in Taiwan. Taiwan's atmosphere is free, but people do not concern high fashion clothing. FS: Can you talk a little about your design process? YTH: continuous modification and testing FS: What are 5 of your favorite design items at home? YTH: only Dyson vacuum FS: Can you describe a day in your life? YTH: my day is no different from everyone else's. The only difference is that there is more flexibility. FS: Could you please share some pearls of wisdom for young designers? What are your suggestions to young, up and coming designers? YTH: I think I still have a lot of room for improvement FS: From your perspective, what would you say are some positives and negatives of being a designer? YTH: it's achievement when people love my design. BUT when it becomes work, it makes me feel pressure. FS: What is your "golden rule" in design? YTH: proportion FS: What skills are most important for a designer? YTH: for fashion it must be creativity, knowledge of texture and fabric. FS: Which tools do you use during design? What is inside your toolbox? Such as software, application, hardware, books, sources of inspiration etc.? YTH: pinterest adobe illustrate procreate for ipad project runway FS: Designing can sometimes be a really time consuming task, how do you manage your time? YTH: assign a task for everyday, but also need to release the pressure. FS: How long does it take to design an object from beginning to end? YTH: 3-7 days FS: What are your future plans? What is next for you? YTH: finish a collection for Taipei fashion week 2024SS young talent show FS: Do you work as a team, or do you develop your designs yourself? YTH: i develop my designs by myself most of time, when i encounter some difficulty i'd ask my college friends for help. FS: How can people contact you?
