Interview with Harel Koka at Thursday 2nd of February 2023 FS: Could you please tell us more about your art and design background? What made you become an artist/designer? Have you always wanted to be a designer? HK: What made me a designer is the desire to influence the visual world from a design point of view, I have always had a passion for the world of art and design in particular, so for me being a designer is the natural choice FS: Can you tell us more about your company / design studio? HK: I find interest in goal-oriented design such as logos, branding and creating a concept that is finally translated into a design language FS: What is "design" for you? HK: For me, design is a way of life. It affects our emotions and everyday life and is around us every day, we just have to observe and enjoy it FS: What kinds of works do you like designing most? HK: I mainly like to design logos and products, these are works that characterize the client and his work in the best way FS: What is your most favorite design, could you please tell more about it? HK: My favorite job to design so far was a logo for a bar for alcohol events, it was definitely challenging but satisfying FS: What is your favorite material / platform / technology? HK: The technology that helps me the most is sketching, it's the best way to express my idea before the graphic programs FS: When do you feel the most creative? HK: I feel the most creative when I'm preparing for work or a new challenge, that's when my head starts working and looking for new artistic directions FS: Which aspects of a design do you focus more during designing? HK: I find the most interest in graphic design, it fascinates me a lot FS: What kind of emotions do you feel when you design? HK: When I start designing I get excited and filled with motivation for a new challenge, it always excites me every time FS: What kind of emotions do you feel when your designs are realized? HK: When this happens there is no more satisfying feeling than that, like birth... birth of an idea, design and work FS: What makes a design successful? HK: In my opinion, what makes a design successful is the concept embodied in it. If the concept is strong, clear and precise, all that remains is to convey it correctly to the client, and this is actually our challenge FS: When judging a design as good or bad, which aspects do you consider first? HK: First of all, if the concept is correct and communicated well FS: From your point of view, what are the responsibilities of a designer for society and environment? HK: The responsibility of a designer, in my opinion, is to create an atmosphere, fulfill the client's dream and fill a special space in a person's life and in the visible environment FS: How do you think the "design field" is evolving? What is the future of design? HK: In my opinion, the future of design is endless. Always reinventing himself and making sure to be updated, so we will have to discover the answer ourselves FS: Where does the design inspiration for your works come from? How do you feed your creativity? What are your sources of inspirations? HK: The source of my inspiration is actually the environment from which I constantly absorb and receive new artistic orientations FS: How would you describe your design style? What made you explore more this style and what are the main characteristics of your style? What's your approach to design? HK: The style I am most attracted to is the minimalist style that illustrates a lot in a simple and special way, I believe I have found this style over the years while dealing in the field, my approach is to try to simplify the matter and illustrate it in a clean and precise way FS: Where do you live? Do you feel the cultural heritage of your country affects your designs? What are the pros and cons during designing as a result of living in your country? HK: I currently live and reside in Florence, Italy, one of the most artistic cities in the world and it gives me a lot and helps me grow and develop as a graphic designer FS: Can you talk a little about your design process? HK: First of all, I think of an idea and bring it to fruition on the page where I simplify it, draw it and play with it until I finally get a concept out of it and express it as a more solid idea and a tip for starting work FS: What skills are most important for a designer? HK: Creative thinking, paying attention to the smallest details and the ability to express the ideas are definitely skills that every designer needs FS: Which tools do you use during design? What is inside your toolbox? Such as software, application, hardware, books, sources of inspiration etc.? HK: A notebook, some pencils and of course the design software to transfer the idea from the hand to the computer. The passion and search for ideas never ends and I find inspiration in everything that surrounds me on a daily basis FS: How can people contact you?
