Interview with Hui Qiong Yang at Friday 13th of May 2022 FS: Could you please tell us more about your art and design background? What made you become an artist/designer? Have you always wanted to be a designer? HQY: I have been engaged in this industry for nearly ten years, so I became a designer. When I was in college, I wanted to be an excellent designer very much. FS: Can you tell us more about your company / design studio? HQY: There are only four people in our company, which is a very small team. We are mainly engaged in packaging design, visual century and cultural and creative product design. FS: What is "design" for you? HQY: Our design has been committed to expressing traditional Chinese culture in modern ways and making it a system. FS: What kinds of works do you like designing most? HQY: Challenging FS: What is your most favorite design, could you please tell more about it? HQY: Recently, I like durable design, which is the kind of design works left after years of precipitation, and has been used all the time. FS: What was the first thing you designed for a company? HQY: Our logo FS: What is your favorite material / platform / technology? HQY: propylene FS: When do you feel the most creative? HQY: When I sleep, I think of many ideas when I sleep. FS: Which aspects of a design do you focus more during designing? HQY: The rationality of the design, whether the problem can be solved and whether it can be implemented. FS: What kind of emotions do you feel when you design? HQY: Will be very excited, feel that you can make good works, and look forward to it. FS: What kind of emotions do you feel when your designs are realized? HQY: I'm very happy and feel that I have completed another very important thing. And very much look forward to the response and feedback of the market. FS: What makes a design successful? HQY: It is the test of time FS: When judging a design as good or bad, which aspects do you consider first? HQY: consumer FS: From your point of view, what are the responsibilities of a designer for society and environment? HQY: We should not design rubbish design works casually. Every design should be serious and responsible FS: How do you think the "design field" is evolving? What is the future of design? HQY: The design field is popular and cross-border. Breaking the original boundaries, there should be no taboos in the future. FS: When was your last exhibition and where was it? And when do you want to hold your next exhibition? HQY: The last personal exhibition was held in China in May 2022, and the next personal exhibition should be held around October 2022. FS: Where does the design inspiration for your works come from? How do you feed your creativity? What are your sources of inspirations? HQY: Inspiration comes from many places, sometimes during project research, and sometimes from movies, poetry, music, architecture, history and humanities. I like studying these very much. They give me a lot of inspiration. Continuous learning is the reason why I maintain my creativity. FS: How would you describe your design style? What made you explore more this style and what are the main characteristics of your style? What's your approach to design? HQY: I like Chinese traditional culture very much, so I have been committed to expressing Chinese traditional culture in modern language and forming a system. And has been trying to apply it in business to balance business and culture. FS: Where do you live? Do you feel the cultural heritage of your country affects your designs? What are the pros and cons during designing as a result of living in your country? HQY: I live in China. I like Chinese traditional culture very much and have been studying it. Living in China gives me a deep historical heritage and makes our design very own style. FS: How do you work with companies? HQY: Generally, when signing a contract, according to the terms of the contract, we usually charge a certain advance payment before starting work. FS: What are your suggestions to companies for working with a designer? How can companies select a good designer? HQY: Well, you can communicate more. If it's very difficult for everyone to communicate, it's suggested to solve the communication problem first. FS: Can you talk a little about your design process? HQY: Generally, first conduct field research, then discuss the design direction with customers, and then work out some creative directions. After determining the creative direction, complete the design, and finally land on the ground. FS: Can you describe a day in your life? HQY: Get up, eat, read, go to the company, deal with work, have meetings, get off work and watch movies. FS: Could you please share some pearls of wisdom for young designers? What are your suggestions to young, up and coming designers? HQY: We should persist in creating all the time and do not slack off. If we lag behind, we will be beaten. FS: From your perspective, what would you say are some positives and negatives of being a designer? HQY: Designers are easy to find the beauty of life, but they are also very picky and make people feel difficult to get along with. FS: What is your "golden rule" in design? HQY: Repeatedly consider whether the design can stand verification. FS: What skills are most important for a designer? HQY: Solve problems and capture problems. FS: Which tools do you use during design? What is inside your toolbox? Such as software, application, hardware, books, sources of inspiration etc.? HQY: ps ai C4D FS: Designing can sometimes be a really time consuming task, how do you manage your time? HQY: In fact, the design time is not long, mainly because it takes a long time to think. Therefore, I think it will be very fast to act after thinking well. FS: How long does it take to design an object from beginning to end? HQY: About a month FS: What is the most frequently asked question to you, as a designer? HQY: Like to ask why FS: What was your most important job experience? HQY: Probably my last job as chief illustrator in Guge Dynasty design company FS: Who are some of your clients? HQY: All walks of life FS: What type of design work do you enjoy the most and why? HQY: Challenging, will make me feel that I can grow and break through myself FS: What are your future plans? What is next for you? HQY: We plan to develop some interesting cultural and creative products FS: Do you work as a team, or do you develop your designs yourself? HQY: We plan to develop some interesting cultural and creative products FS: Do you have any works-in-progress being designed that you would like to talk about? HQY: Recently, we are developing sachet products. It is actually very challenging to break through such traditional products. FS: How can people contact you?
