Interview with Jarno Voutilainen at Sunday 30th of January 2022 ![]() FS: Could you please tell us more about your art and design background? What made you become an artist/designer? Have you always wanted to be a designer? JV: Yes, I have always wanted to be a designer who develops a new kind of engineering design. I can imagine technical solutions which are combined with the unique design in my mind. FS: What is "design" for you? JV: Design is for me natural shapes which are combined together seamlessly. FS: What kinds of works do you like designing most? JV: Everyday objects. FS: What is your most favorite design, could you please tell more about it? JV: ZONE Bluetooth speaker. FS: What was the first thing you designed for a company? JV: ZONE Bluetooth speaker. FS: What is your favorite material / platform / technology? JV: 3D modeling and printing. FS: When do you feel the most creative? JV: The creative moment just comes. There´s no change to make it happen when I want. FS: Which aspects of a design do you focus more during designing? JV: Eco-friendliness. I like to make "pure" designs. FS: What kind of emotions do you feel when you design? JV: I feel relaxed and calm. FS: What kind of emotions do you feel when your designs are realized? JV: Joyful and proud. FS: What makes a design successful? JV: Design is successful when a complete object works as it was in my mind. FS: When judging a design as good or bad, which aspects do you consider first? JV: The overall look and feel of the design FS: From your point of view, what are the responsibilities of a designer for society and environment? JV: The boundary condition in design is to create an object that is environmentally friendly, for example, a consumer product by being easy to maintain and manufactured in an environmentally friendly manner. FS: How do you think the "design field" is evolving? What is the future of design? JV: I believe that multifunctional design will be the future.
