FS: Could you please tell us more about your art and design background? What made you become an artist/designer? Have you always wanted to be a designer?
CGR: I come from a textile family, I grew up surrounded by textiles and clothing, I always liked fashion, but above all designing to transform the way fashion was made.

FS: Can you tell us more about your company / design studio?
CGR: We are dedicated to making iconic pieces that tell a story in each stitch, thinking about innovation, sustainability and fashion.

FS: What is "design" for you?
CGR: Design is having the possibility of creating and transforming the world and the people who inhabit it.

FS: What kinds of works do you like designing most?
CGR: What I like to design the most is textiles and if it is knitted fabric the better, then transform it into clothing.

FS: What is your most favorite design, could you please tell more about it?
CGR: the design I made during the pandemic, which was to visualize the deaths through an algorithm and capture it on a textile.

FS: What was the first thing you designed for a company?
CGR: I started with commercial collections for department stores in Mexico.

FS: What is your favorite material / platform / technology?
CGR: My favorite material is knitting and upcycling.

FS: When do you feel the most creative?
CGR: Design from the origin which is the fiber, then the textile to finish the piece in a piece of clothing

FS: Which aspects of a design do you focus more during designing?
CGR: in the creative process

FS: What kind of emotions do you feel when you design?
CGR: emotion, passion, excited

FS: What kind of emotions do you feel when your designs are realized?
CGR: emotion, passion, excited

FS: What makes a design successful?
CGR: that the people that was design for feel happy, and into the cloth.

FS: When judging a design as good or bad, which aspects do you consider first?
CGR: innovation

FS: From your point of view, what are the responsibilities of a designer for society and environment?
CGR: We have to think about social, economic and environmental factors so that we can truly transform the world through design.

FS: How do you think the "design field" is evolving? What is the future of design?
CGR: On the one hand, return to the basics, returning to ancestral techniques, but on the other hand, incorporate technologies that help transform the design.

FS: When was your last exhibition and where was it? And when do you want to hold your next exhibition?
CGR: on November 2023 at Espacio CDMX, Design Week

FS: Where does the design inspiration for your works come from? How do you feed your creativity? What are your sources of inspirations?
CGR: it depends on the project, but usually i love to work with knitting and different colours.

FS: How would you describe your design style? What made you explore more this style and what are the main characteristics of your style? What's your approach to design?
CGR: eclectic, with color and textures, always with a story that supports it.

FS: Where do you live? Do you feel the cultural heritage of your country affects your designs? What are the pros and cons during designing as a result of living in your country?
CGR: I live in Mexico City, my identity as Mexican is fundamental as I am very close to the communities of indigenous peoples, exalting their techniques and processes in my projects.

FS: How do you work with companies?
CGR: From especific projects

FS: What are your suggestions to companies for working with a designer? How can companies select a good designer?
CGR: Let the design, they know what they are doing.

FS: Can you talk a little about your design process?
CGR: I start with an exhaustive investigation of trends, inspiration, technology, processes, from there I go through the synthesis to highlight the most important things. Then I start the creative process of sketching and textile experimentation to finish with the production of the piece.

FS: What are 5 of your favorite design items at home?
CGR: my bag, my notebook, my pencil holder, my computer, and studio.

FS: Can you describe a day in your life?
CGR: in the morning i go to the gym, then to the university to give some classes, after that to my studio at the evening, and then back home

FS: Could you please share some pearls of wisdom for young designers? What are your suggestions to young, up and coming designers?
CGR: be passion for every project that you are inn.

FS: From your perspective, what would you say are some positives and negatives of being a designer?
CGR: As designers we have the possibility of observing the world in detail, beautifying it and providing solutions to the problems of people, society, country and world.

FS: What is your "golden rule" in design?
CGR: never complain.

FS: What skills are most important for a designer?
CGR: observe

FS: Which tools do you use during design? What is inside your toolbox? Such as software, application, hardware, books, sources of inspiration etc.?
CGR: colours, markers and pencils.

FS: Designing can sometimes be a really time consuming task, how do you manage your time?
CGR: I try to organize myself as much as possible

FS: How long does it take to design an object from beginning to end?
CGR: it depends on the project it could be a week, a month o more than a month.

FS: What is the most frequently asked question to you, as a designer?
CGR: how much will it cost

FS: What was your most important job experience?
CGR: Be teacher and coordinate a undergraduate program of Fashion and Textile Design.

FS: Who are some of your clients?
CGR: Arquitects, Festivals, Department stores.

FS: What type of design work do you enjoy the most and why?
CGR: disruptive projects

FS: What are your future plans? What is next for you?
CGR: participate with more projects in exhibitions about sustainability and fashion

FS: Do you work as a team, or do you develop your designs yourself?
CGR: it depends on the project

FS: Do you have any works-in-progress being designed that you would like to talk about?
CGR: I am working on a solar jacket for migrant farm workers who are exposed to high temperatures.
