Interview with Wen Lung Cho at Saturday 23rd of April 2022

FS: Could you please tell us more about your art and design background? What made you become an artist/designer? Have you always wanted to be a designer?
WLC: I graduated from Taichung University of Science and Technology in Taiwan with a degree in Visual Communication Design and have been working in design and illustration ever since. Yes, I've always wanted to work in design and illustration

FS: Can you tell us more about your company / design studio?
WLC: At present, it is a studio that takes over the case and creates designs by itself

FS: What is "design" for you?
WLC: Colorful and everyday

FS: What kinds of works do you like designing most?
WLC: There are not too many limitations, and it can be fully created

FS: What is your most favorite design, could you please tell more about it?
WLC: I like the innovative style of illustration design that is different, because it is an innate talent

FS: What was the first thing you designed for a company?
WLC: Newspaper column illustrations

FS: What is your favorite material / platform / technology?
WLC: Favorite hand-painted acrylic paint / The exhibition hall is my favorite platform / My favorite hand-drawn technique

FS: When do you feel the most creative?
WLC: When inspiration comes

FS: Which aspects of a design do you focus more during designing?
WLC: Is that good enough?

FS: What kind of emotions do you feel when you design?
WLC: Anticipation and panic

FS: What kind of emotions do you feel when your designs are realized?
WLC: That's great

FS: What makes a design successful?
WLC: Nice and likable

FS: When judging a design as good or bad, which aspects do you consider first?
WLC: Good look and meet the needs

FS: From your point of view, what are the responsibilities of a designer for society and environment?
WLC: Create good senses, good joy

FS: How do you think the "design field" is evolving? What is the future of design?
WLC: Diversification and perverse are evolving trends today, and the future of illustration design lies in constant innovation

FS: When was your last exhibition and where was it? And when do you want to hold your next exhibition?
WLC: I didn't have an exhibition, it was held when the time was ripe

FS: Where does the design inspiration for your works come from? How do you feed your creativity? What are your sources of inspirations?
WLC: My creative inspiration comes from life experience, and I cultivate creativity by observing a variety of works

FS: How would you describe your design style? What made you explore more this style and what are the main characteristics of your style? What's your approach to design?
WLC: The participant's angle depicts viewing and highlighting the colors is my style. Depicting the daily life of modern people has made me explore this style even more. Happiness is a characteristic of my style. As for my design approach, I look around more

FS: Where do you live? Do you feel the cultural heritage of your country affects your designs? What are the pros and cons during designing as a result of living in your country?
WLC: I live in Taipei, Taiwan, and it is inevitable to be influenced by culture, and the design advantage in Taiwan is that it is fully free and open without restrictions, but because of the small population, the demand is less and the scale is smaller

FS: How do you work with companies?
WLC: The other party invites

FS: What are your suggestions to companies for working with a designer? How can companies select a good designer?
WLC: Communicate with each other adequately. Respect for work attitude

FS: Can you talk a little about your design process?
WLC: After understanding the story, communicate with the inviting unit, collect information and compose the picture, color

FS: What are 5 of your favorite design items at home?
WLC: Dog home decorations, artist prints, Yoshitomo Nara's candy cans, designer chandeliers, Japanese designer clothes

FS: Can you describe a day in your life?
WLC: Get up, live, draw pictures, rest

FS: Could you please share some pearls of wisdom for young designers? What are your suggestions to young, up and coming designers?
WLC: Humble attitude, full of creativity

FS: From your perspective, what would you say are some positives and negatives of being a designer?
WLC: It is very positive to encounter a favorite case, and it is negative to reject the manuscript

FS: What is your "golden rule" in design?
WLC: Learn about the story, the creative composition, the colorful colors

FS: What skills are most important for a designer?
WLC: Independent point of view

FS: Which tools do you use during design? What is inside your toolbox? Such as software, application, hardware, books, sources of inspiration etc.?
WLC: Acrylic pigments, collages, networks

FS: Designing can sometimes be a really time consuming task, how do you manage your time?
WLC: Schedule the time

FS: How long does it take to design an object from beginning to end?
WLC: not necessarily

FS: What is the most frequently asked question to you, as a designer?
WLC: Need to express

FS: What was your most important job experience?
WLC: Illustration creation about travel

FS: Who are some of your clients?
WLC: PIAGET、ENTERPRISE IG、Beijing World State Travel Network、RSL Hotel、publishing house、newspaper office

FS: What type of design work do you enjoy the most and why?
WLC: Illustrator_ live and work freely

FS: What are your future plans? What is next for you?
WLC: Continue to create

FS: Do you work as a team, or do you develop your designs yourself?
WLC: Work on your own

WLC: No
