Interview with Nicolle Nogueira an Katherine Heim Weber at Wednesday 13th of April 2022
Nicolle Nogueira
FS: Could you please tell us more about your art and design background? What made you become an artist/designer? Have you always wanted to be a designer?
NNAKHW: We met when we were in college. When I graduated (Nicolle), I already knew I wanted to open an office and I invited Katherine to be my partner. We founded NK at a very young age, newly formed and we learned a lot along the way.

FS: Can you tell us more about your company / design studio?
NNAKHW: We believe that architecture needs to be made for people. That's why you need to understand the briefing very well to translate people into architecture. We work with residential architectural and interior projects, and with a multidisciplinary team we can also serve the commercial market.

FS: What is "design" for you?
NNAKHW: Experience.

FS: What kinds of works do you like designing most?
NNAKHW: Residencial

FS: What is your most favorite design, could you please tell more about it?
NNAKHW: Mole Chair by Sergio Rodrigues.

FS: What was the first thing you designed for a company?
NNAKHW: DOT lamp.

FS: What is your favorite material / platform / technology?
NNAKHW: Steal and wood

FS: When do you feel the most creative?
NNAKHW: Very early in the morning.

FS: Which aspects of a design do you focus more during designing?
NNAKHW: Beauty and functionality.

FS: What kind of emotions do you feel when you design?
NNAKHW: Alive

FS: What kind of emotions do you feel when your designs are realized?
NNAKHW: Fulfilled

FS: What makes a design successful?
NNAKHW: Generate emotions and be functional.

FS: When judging a design as good or bad, which aspects do you consider first?
NNAKHW: What is the emotion felt when I look at this piece?

FS: From your point of view, what are the responsibilities of a designer for society and environment?
NNAKHW: Generate different emotions in people, create something functional and striking.

FS: How do you think the "design field" is evolving? What is the future of design?
NNAKHW: Thought for people and not just for visual aspects.

FS: When was your last exhibition and where was it? And when do you want to hold your next exhibition?
NNAKHW: Casa Cor Parana 2022

FS: Where does the design inspiration for your works come from? How do you feed your creativity? What are your sources of inspirations?
NNAKHW: Everything inspires. Being in touch with nature, with different cultures, with art, common everyday situations, books. Everything can be the result of creativity, just be always attentive with a curious eye.

FS: How would you describe your design style? What made you explore more this style and what are the main characteristics of your style? What's your approach to design?
NNAKHW: Contemporary and clean

FS: Where do you live? Do you feel the cultural heritage of your country affects your designs? What are the pros and cons during designing as a result of living in your country?
NNAKHW: We live in Brazil, and here everything is very warm. However, the city we live in is in the south, where temperatures are the lowest in the country. This culturally makes the houses here have a different design. We believe it is important to always be aware of the place where everything is being developed to follow the culture and meet the demand in an assertive way.

FS: How do you work with companies?
NNAKHW: Understanding brands to translate them into design and architecture.

FS: What are your suggestions to companies for working with a designer? How can companies select a good designer?
NNAKHW: Creativity and soft skills

FS: Thank you for providing us with this opportunity to interview you.
