FS: Can you tell us more about your company / design studio?
YC: We are Sholem Cimet Ralsky (father) and Yoram Cimet Pasol (son) leading CIMET Arquitectos, a firm with 40 years of experience in architectural design, real estate development, and construction. The firm's goal is to create positive urban impacts through sustainable interventions, enhancing the well-being of the areas where their projects are located.
FS: What makes a design successful?
YC: It is very important, and I believe that we aim to create elegant and timeless architecture, avoiding trends, that is highly functional and generates positive impacts on both the population and users, always with sustainability as a goal.
FS: From your point of view, what are the responsibilities of a designer for society and environment?
YC: We have a professional goal: to restore buildings in Mexico City with social and environmental responsibility. They both believe in the vast potential of repopulating central areas, focusing on corporate offices and vertical housing.
FS: How do you think the "design field" is evolving? What is the future of design?
YC: Design should aim to integrate with its context; there are no longer formal whims or projects isolated from their reality. Each project must be responsive to its environment, elevating it.
FS: How would you describe your design style? What made you explore more this style and what are the main characteristics of your style? What's your approach to design?
YC: We believe in architecture as a driver to create a positive impact on the urban environment. We believe in creating enriching spatial experiences. We believe in sustainability as a catalyst for a better future. We believe in connectivity as an element that drives development.
FS: Where do you live? Do you feel the cultural heritage of your country affects your designs? What are the pros and cons during designing as a result of living in your country?
YC: Of course, there is a social responsibility and a cultural heritage that we strive to integrate into every design.
FS: Can you talk a little about your design process?
YC: From the very conception, design, and first sketches, one must look toward the future, finding ways to address needs, functionality, and space. Everything related to technology, equipment, and requirements must be seamlessly integrated.
FS: Could you please share some pearls of wisdom for young designers? What are your suggestions to young, up and coming designers?
YC: When a project is conceived with the goal of solving all these complexities as a whole, it becomes truly intelligent. A building may have poor spatial design yet be packed with the latest technology—it may be automated, but that doesn’t make it intelligent. If you don’t plan from the start, addressing all needs while integrating technology, it will never be truly smart.
FS: How long does it take to design an object from beginning to end?
YC: 18 to 24 months, depending on the challenges and size of the project.
FS: What is the most frequently asked question to you, as a designer?
YC: We are often asked about the situation in our city, Mexico City, particularly issues such as water shortages, mobility, and how, in a real estate sector increasingly affected by these problems, CIMET Arquitectos seeks to change paradigms.
FS: What was your most important job experience?
YC: Glorieta Cibeles Tower, bringing this design from conception to completion has been an exciting journey.
FS: Who are some of your clients?
YC: Mitsubishi Electric
FS: What are your future plans? What is next for you?
YC: Continue contributing to the improvement of the city with increasingly responsible and sustainable architecture.
FS: Do you work as a team, or do you develop your designs yourself?
YC: We design and build, all in an integrated manner.
