Interview with Arkadia Works at Wednesday 24th of February 2021 ![]() FS: Could you please tell us more about your art and design background? What made you become an artist/designer? Have you always wanted to be a designer? AW: I really enjoy the feeling of a well planned space. Everything has a purpose. FS: Can you tell us more about your company / design studio? AW: Arkadia Works is a professional design firm founded on the belief that ideas and skilled craftsmanship are essential in enriching people's lives. Arkadia Works provide finest quality, excellent service, punctuality and partnership during the entire project. FS: What is "design" for you? AW: It is something that has a purpose and functionality for its user combined with a great aesthetic. FS: What kinds of works do you like designing most? AW: Interior Design FS: What is your most favorite design, could you please tell more about it? AW: My latest work on the Concentrix office in Yogyakarta, Indonesia is currently my favourite one. Because we managed to incorporated the feel and look of a traditional Javanese with the touch of modern style office. FS: What was the first thing you designed for a company? AW: Showroom FS: What is your favorite material / platform / technology? AW: Natural material such as the black andesite stones that I used for the reception desk on Concenctrix FS: When do you feel the most creative? AW: Mostly at night FS: Which aspects of a design do you focus more during designing? AW: The clients needs and functionality. FS: What kind of emotions do you feel when you design? AW: Challenged. FS: What kind of emotions do you feel when your designs are realized? AW: Fullness. Satisfaction. FS: What makes a design successful? AW: When the user is happy with the result. And has a meaningful functionality for its user(s). FS: When judging a design as good or bad, which aspects do you consider first? AW: The look and theme. FS: From your point of view, what are the responsibilities of a designer for society and environment? AW: As a designer we are responsible to make the things that we designed has a greater purpose for enriching people's lives. FS: How do you think the "design field" is evolving? What is the future of design? AW: The design style at the moment is challenged with the limited amount of space meanwhile with the "new normal" it is mandatory to has that safe distancing from one and another. FS: When was your last exhibition and where was it? And when do you want to hold your next exhibition? AW: none FS: Where does the design inspiration for your works come from? How do you feed your creativity? What are your sources of inspirations? AW: From the places I have traveled and also online references. FS: How would you describe your design style? What made you explore more this style and what are the main characteristics of your style? What's your approach to design? AW: Modern FS: Where do you live? Do you feel the cultural heritage of your country affects your designs? What are the pros and cons during designing as a result of living in your country? AW: Indonesia. Yes the culture of where I live definitely effected the style. Pros : There are many traditional elements and materials that can be combined with modern theme. Cons : If we are unable to find that perfect balance between the two, the end result would be not great. FS: How do you work with companies? AW: I'm doing well. FS: What are your suggestions to companies for working with a designer? How can companies select a good designer? AW: Companies should know whether or not the designer still has space to grow, fit the company culture, and has the knowledge of what currently and future design will be. FS: Can you talk a little about your design process? AW: Understand the brief and requirements, study the limitations, concept, and deliver FS: What are 5 of your favorite design items at home? AW: Work desk, Work chair, Laptop, Sofa,Room Lamp FS: Can you describe a day in your life? AW: Starts with a light breakfast, a bit exercise, going to work, hangout with friends before going back. home. FS: Could you please share some pearls of wisdom for young designers? What are your suggestions to young, up and coming designers? AW: Embrace the styles or challenges that maybe you are not comfortable with. Through that you will gain more knowledge that sometime you don't think you know. FS: From your perspective, what would you say are some positives and negatives of being a designer? AW: Positive : We know how to make things better Negative : We tend to overthinks how a design should be made. FS: What is your "golden rule" in design? AW: Balance between function and aesthetic FS: What skills are most important for a designer? AW: Concept and presentation FS: Which tools do you use during design? What is inside your toolbox? Such as software, application, hardware, books, sources of inspiration etc.? AW: Sketchup FS: Designing can sometimes be a really time consuming task, how do you manage your time? AW: With always keep track of day to day to-do-list. FS: How long does it take to design an object from beginning to end? AW: 1-2 weeks FS: What is the most frequently asked question to you, as a designer? AW: Why do you love your profession? FS: What was your most important job experience? AW: Designing for a well known brands FS: Who are some of your clients? AW: Concentrix, Wipro, Pertamina, Taspen FS: What type of design work do you enjoy the most and why?
