Interview with Soudeh Shoarinejad at Thursday 10th of December 2020 FS: Could you please tell us more about your art and design background? What made you become an artist/designer? Have you always wanted to be a designer? SS: I have a master's degree in industrial design and my interest in creative and artistic activities led me to this field and I think it has been one of the most appropriate choices in my life. FS: Can you tell us more about your company / design studio? SS: I'm a freelance designer. FS: What is "design" for you? SS: creatively solving problems and the art of choosing the most appropriate solutions FS: What kinds of works do you like designing most? SS: I'm interested in designing the most fields but professionally I'm a jewelry and home furniture designer. FS: What was the first thing you designed for a company? SS: a piece of jewelry FS: What is your favorite material / platform / technology? SS: I think all materials and technologies are valuable and practical in their place FS: When do you feel the most creative? SS: After delving into and studying and exploring a particular subject. FS: Which aspects of a design do you focus more during designing? SS: I try to have the most concentration on various aspects as I can to do my best. FS: What kind of emotions do you feel when you design? SS: I'm really passionate about designing and I feel the best at this time FS: What kind of emotions do you feel when your designs are realized? SS: At this time I forget the tiredness and feel prosperity FS: What makes a design successful? SS: which is attractive in various aspects of design and it's use FS: When judging a design as good or bad, which aspects do you consider first? SS: uniqueness and attractiveness FS: From your point of view, what are the responsibilities of a designer for society and environment? SS: as a designer I think its important to design considering sustainable development because we are responsible for the good or bad effects of our designs FS: How do you think the "design field" is evolving? What is the future of design? SS: I think it tends to some fields such as service design more than product design FS: When was your last exhibition and where was it? And when do you want to hold your next exhibition? SS: one of my jewelry designs had accepted for presentation in jewelry design week of Tehran which is organized by the university of Tehran but due to covid 19 the exhibition was on Instagram.(November 2020) https://www.instagram.com/p/CHEHlLGgmHk/?igshid=1ektwr1q7nsny FS: Where does the design inspiration for your works come from? How do you feed your creativity? What are your sources of inspirations? SS: I inspire from many sources such as nature, architectural structures and internet or favorite piece of art ,.. .totally I don't have any particular source for my works. FS: How would you describe your design style? What made you explore more this style and what are the main characteristics of your style? What's your approach to design? SS: I've studied a lot for understanding various design styles from the past to the present and in my working field,most of the time it's up to the style of the company's productions design which I work with. because I think as a designer we should design for creating a sense of satisfaction for our aim group. FS: Where do you live? Do you feel the cultural heritage of your country affects your designs? What are the pros and cons during designing as a result of living in your country? SS: I live in Tehran and most of the time I inspired from my country's cultural and art heritage in my designs specially in jewelry designs ,But economically, companies are in tough situation. FS: How do you work with companies? SS: I usually work in projects and I'm a freelancer. FS: Can you talk a little about your design process? SS: I think process thoroughly depends on the field of which I design. FS: What are 5 of your favorite design items at home? SS: developing an idea: inspiration,sketching, searching for a creative solution, designing and modeling my idea by computer FS: From your perspective, what would you say are some positives and negatives of being a designer? SS: positive:Feeling fresh negative:Hard to find a favorite project FS: What skills are most important for a designer? SS: being creative and unique for creating ideas. FS: Which tools do you use during design? What is inside your toolbox? Such as software, application, hardware, books, sources of inspiration etc.? SS: a pen and a paper,software,application FS: Designing can sometimes be a really time consuming task, how do you manage your time? SS: In these cases further study and the use of expert advice can help solve the problems we have encountered then we can continue. FS: How long does it take to design an object from beginning to end? SS: This is a general question and the design time is different for various project. FS: What is the most frequently asked question to you, as a designer? SS: How hard is your work, designing something new? FS: What was your most important job experience? SS: learning more details in my work FS: Who are some of your clients? SS: Home furniture and jewelry producers FS: What are your future plans? What is next for you? SS: improving in my works and experiences. FS: Do you work as a team, or do you develop your designs yourself?
