Interview with Sarthak Tavate at Tuesday 26th of January 2021 FS: Could you please tell us more about your art and design background? What made you become an artist/designer? Have you always wanted to be a designer? ST: As a high school pass-out, my choices for career in life were inclined towards a creative field. Converging to a Product Design course at MIT Institute of Design, Pune was my destiny. My life in design started way before the academic circle. 3D has been my passion since developing years. Now that I am dissolved in the Product Design field, I feel immensely joyous and enthusiastic. FS: Can you tell us more about your company / design studio? ST: MIT Institute of Design is an autonomous institute offering courses in Design. It is ranked to be one of the 5 best institutes for design learning in India. FS: What is "design" for you? ST: Design for me is passion and strength completely indulging in Product design gives me immense joy and satisfaction. Intrusively observing and constantly provoking problem-solving ideologies is the way of life for me. Constantly evolving and innovating is to make the world a better place is design for me. FS: What kinds of works do you like designing most? ST: Practical problem-solving Product design is my ally and which I most astoundingly enjoy. FS: What is your most favorite design, could you please tell more about it? ST: The first iPhone under Steve Jobs is my most favorite design. Not only is it a beginning of a new era but it also deeply influences the major design changes and perfection that is put into a single outcome. The innovation with tech design, marketing with a major focus on user experience into the finest level made the difference. FS: What was the first thing you designed for a company? ST: During my first design internship, I designed a Bamboo Amplifier, details of which are classified under NDA. FS: What is your favorite material / platform / technology? ST: My favorite platform has to be digital product design modeling, rendering and simulation. My favorite material to work with is undoubtedly Bamboo. It's sheer versatility, eco-friendly nature and production capabilities inspire my practical self. FS: When do you feel the most creative? ST: I am sure most of the designers and design learners will agree with me on this, the most creative time is at late hours with the team. Productivity levels definitely are higher after hours at least for design learners. FS: Which aspects of a design do you focus more during designing? ST: I focus on practicality, versatility, innovation, simplicity, tech-base and production leveled aspects when designing. FS: What kind of emotions do you feel when you design? ST: I feel enthusiastic and ever motivated while designing. FS: What kind of emotions do you feel when your designs are realized? ST: I feel joyous and proud with max efforts I try to put into every little detail. FS: What makes a design successful? ST: Perfection, empathy and innovation make a design successful. FS: When judging a design as good or bad, which aspects do you consider first? ST: When judging a design functionality, aesthetics, ergonomics, purposeful design aspects I would consider foremost. FS: From your point of view, what are the responsibilities of a designer for society and environment? ST: Every problem has a solution and almost every material has an alternative so relinquishing those requirements over constraints. With a lot of problems to solve together let us make this world a little better. FS: How do you think the "design field" is evolving? What is the future of design? ST: The field is definitely evolving and gaining a lot of attention for the design processes to suffice problem-solving methods. The future of design is tech-based custom preferable design language. FS: When was your last exhibition and where was it? And when do you want to hold your next exhibition? ST: Two of my projects were featured on 'packaging of the world' an online platform. FS: Where does the design inspiration for your works come from? How do you feed your creativity? What are your sources of inspirations? ST: My main sources of inspiration are from nature. The way that nature evolved into solutions is just so much of a high. Experiencing problems first hand and empathizing are also some of my important inspirations. FS: How would you describe your design style? What made you explore more this style and what are the main characteristics of your style? What's your approach to design? ST: Practical problem-solving Product design is my ally and which I most astoundingly enjoy. FS: Where do you live? Do you feel the cultural heritage of your country affects your designs? What are the pros and cons during designing as a result of living in your country? ST: I live in Mumbai, India and India is famous for its rich culture and ethnicity it definitely transforms my design into a practical and aesthetically styled type. FS: How do you work with companies? ST: Mostly online based deliverables since I am a student and education is my priority. FS: What are your suggestions to companies for working with a designer? How can companies select a good designer? ST: A good design working environment is the only qualifier since a good team makes a design great. FS: Who are some of your clients? ST: Cyber Tapri was my only client as of now. FS: What type of design work do you enjoy the most and why? ST: Digital modeling and rendering because it is the fastest and the best way to describe a design. FS: What are your future plans? What is next for you? ST: n the next 10 years, I see myself having established a Design firm of my own, traveling the world subsequently. FS: Do you work as a team, or do you develop your designs yourself?
