Additionally, my innovative garden designs have been featured multiple times on television programs, allowing me to share my expertise with an even wider audience. FS: What is "design" for you? DB: Design, for me, transcends the mere act of creating aesthetically pleasing and functional spaces. It is a profound form of expression, a way to weave narratives and emotions into tangible forms. Design is the art of storytelling through shapes, colors, and textures, where every element serves a purpose. It's a holistic approach that considers not only visual appeal but also the user's experience, functionality, and the impact on the surrounding environment. In essence, design is a powerful language that allows me to communicate ideas, evoke feelings, and leave a lasting impression on those who interact with the spaces I create. FS: What kinds of works do you like designing most? DB: I most enjoy designing modern spaces. That's where I feel at my best. Modern design allows me to express my creativity and passion in the most contemporary way. It is a fascinating challenge for me to create projects that not only reflect current trends but also meet the expectations of clients, shaping a harmonious and functional space. FS: What is your most favorite design, could you please tell more about it? DB: As a garden designer, my favorite area of work undoubtedly lies in the realm of small urban gardens. Although my portfolio often includes impressive projects of large gardens, it's the compact urban spaces that consistently capture my heart. What makes small gardens so fascinating? The answer lies in the intense design process that must be completed in a relatively short time, typically within a single year. In contrast to larger projects, where implementations are often divided into stages lasting for years, small gardens demand a designer's focus on every square inch of their space. Designing small urban gardens is a true challenge, presenting an opportunity for shaping a space in a way that even the tiniest detail holds significant importance. It's within these microscopic details that the power to change the atmosphere and perception of the garden resides. This is something that always motivates me to work on subsequent projects. While I take great pleasure in witnessing the development of larger gardens, these small urban corners consistently grab my attention. Each of them represents a unique space where design, plants, and functionality come together in harmony, creating a magical place for relaxation and enjoying nature in the heart of the city. Therefore, despite having extensive experience in designing diverse gardens, working on small urban gardens is always a special challenge for me. It intensifies my passion for garden design, making the process even more rewarding and satisfying. FS: What was the first thing you designed for a company? DB: My inaugural project for the company was a sprawling garden situated just beyond the city limits, covering approximately 3,500 m2. This endeavor also served as my engineering thesis during my university studies. Pouring immense effort and dedication into this project, I found great joy in witnessing the garden come to life according to my vision. The completed garden, faithfully constructed according to my design, not only affirmed my skills but marked a defining moment that solidified my conviction that landscape design is my true passion. In the meticulous process of crafting this green sanctuary, every element was carefully considered to create a timeless and inviting atmosphere. The realization of this project stands as a testament to the seamless integration of artistry and engineering in outdoor spaces. This inaugural venture remains a cherished milestone in my design journey, inspiring me to continue shaping landscapes that resonate with both clients and nature enthusiasts alike. FS: What is your favorite material / platform / technology? DB: When it comes to my favorite materials in landscape design, concrete holds a special place in my heart. Its versatility allows me to shape and mold it into various forms, providing a robust foundation for both structural and artistic elements in my projects. Concrete, with its enduring strength, becomes a canvas upon which the vision of a harmonious outdoor space unfolds. Fiberglass, particularly in the form of reinforced fiberglass, is another cherished companion in my design endeavors. Its resilience in the face of diverse weather conditions ensures that the elements of my creations withstand the test of time. This durability combines seamlessly with its adaptability, allowing me to incorporate it into a spectrum of design elements with confidence. Wood, in the form of carefully selected and treated decking, is a perennial favorite of mine. Beyond its practicality and warmth, decking has the transformative power to soften the overall appearance of any garden. It acts as an invitation to connect with nature, providing a tactile and inviting surface that complements the organic beauty of the surroundings. A water feature is always a delightful addition to any garden project. The transformative effect of water on the microclimate is remarkable, introducing a soothing and refreshing ambiance. Designing gardens with water elements allows me to create spaces that not only visually captivate but also engage the senses, making every visit a sensorial experience. In my botanical pursuits, I am particularly drawn to plants that beckon pollinators, especially bees and butterflies. The integration of such flora not only enhances the ecological balance but also brings the garden to life with the vibrant hum of nature. For me, a garden is not just a static space but a living, breathing entity that evolves with the seasons and beckons the wonders of the natural world. In essence, my design philosophy revolves around creating outdoor spaces that not only endure the test of time but also resonate with life, inviting people to immerse themselves in the beauty and serenity of nature. Each material and element chosen is a stroke in the canvas of a living masterpiece, where form and function harmonize to craft landscapes that stand the test of both aesthetic and environmental considerations. FS: When do you feel the most creative? DB: My most profound moments of creativity unfold like a tapestry woven from the threads of my worldly adventures.
