Interview with Homely Interior at Friday 3rd of April 2020 FS: Could you please tell us more about your art and design background? What made you become an artist/designer? Have you always wanted to be a designer? HI: I always have an interest in the creative industry. I started off with photography, being a portrait photographer for 4yrs. Soon after I was working for a interior design company as a marketing executive, then a project manager, and now a interior designer. FS: Can you tell us more about your company / design studio? HI: We are a boutique interior design company. Compact but focused. Young but experienced. FS: What is "design" for you? HI: Design is the creation of personalised artworks. FS: What kinds of works do you like designing most? HI: Whatever new. FS: What is your most favorite design, could you please tell more about it? HI: I do not have a favourite design. But I do have favourite project. I love all my designs, but for our client to appreciate the design as much as we do is more satisfactory. FS: What was the first thing you designed for a company? HI: Photography artwork. FS: What is your favorite material / platform / technology? HI: Photoshop. FS: When do you feel the most creative? HI: when I'm creating.. FS: Which aspects of a design do you focus more during designing? HI: Originality. FS: What kind of emotions do you feel when you design? HI: Depends on what project I am handling. FS: What kind of emotions do you feel when your designs are realized? HI: Excited. FS: What makes a design successful? HI: When the target audience appreciate the design as much as you do. FS: When judging a design as good or bad, which aspects do you consider first? HI: The person who is going to judge the design. FS: From your point of view, what are the responsibilities of a designer for society and environment? HI: Be truthful to your design. FS: How do you think the "design field" is evolving? What is the future of design? HI: Yes. You never know. FS: When was your last exhibition and where was it? And when do you want to hold your next exhibition? HI: I had not yet hold a exhibition. FS: Where does the design inspiration for your works come from? How do you feed your creativity? What are your sources of inspirations? HI: Brainstorming. Daydreaming. FS: How would you describe your design style? What made you explore more this style and what are the main characteristics of your style? What's your approach to design? HI: Minimalist. Simplicity is essence. FS: Where do you live? Do you feel the cultural heritage of your country affects your designs? What are the pros and cons during designing as a result of living in your country? HI: Singapore. Yes it does. Pros is when you know what everyone is doing, you can do something different. Cons is if the target audiences accept your differences. FS: How do you work with companies? HI: Being professional. FS: What are your suggestions to companies for working with a designer? How can companies select a good designer? HI: Be open minded. You are in a creative line.. FS: Can you talk a little about your design process? HI: First I take brief for requirements, then I will do space planning and propose design with costing. FS: What are 5 of your favorite design items at home? HI: My portrait artworks of my family members that I created. FS: Can you describe a day in your life? HI: Overjoy~! FS: Could you please share some pearls of wisdom for young designers? What are your suggestions to young, up and coming designers? HI: Be different. FS: From your perspective, what would you say are some positives and negatives of being a designer? HI: I guess being a designer is fun but hard work, physically. FS: What is your "golden rule" in design? HI: Functionality. FS: What skills are most important for a designer? HI: To be able to present your design. FS: Which tools do you use during design? What is inside your toolbox? Such as software, application, hardware, books, sources of inspiration etc.? HI: auto cad, photoshop. FS: Designing can sometimes be a really time consuming task, how do you manage your time? HI: It never quite bothers me being time consuming. Guess you just have to love what you do. FS: How long does it take to design an object from beginning to end? HI: Depends. From hours to days. FS: What is the most frequently asked question to you, as a designer? HI: Do you ever run out of ideas? FS: What was your most important job experience? HI: Project management. FS: Who are some of your clients? HI: Some homeowners. FS: What type of design work do you enjoy the most and why? HI: Interior design. Because you get to know your clients and many times we make friends. FS: What are your future plans? What is next for you? HI: Win more awards, do more projects. Make more friends. FS: Do you work as a team, or do you develop your designs yourself? HI: Mainly myself. FS: Do you have any works-in-progress being designed that you would like to talk about? HI: works-in-progress are usually confidential ;) FS: How can people contact you? HI: email, mobile. FS: Any other things you would like to cover that have not been covered in these questions?
