Interview with Wu Yu-Han at Wednesday 6th of May 2020 FS: Could you please tell us more about your art and design background? What made you become an artist/designer? Have you always wanted to be a designer? WY: When I was a child, I loved painting and also liked anything related to beauty. In fact, I started to contact design since college. I am very grateful to the tutors I met all the time. When encountering problems and frustrations, I am very patient to help me solve problems. At the same time, it makes my design foundation more stable and I want to be a good designer. FS: Can you tell us more about your company / design studio? WY: none FS: What is "design" for you? WY: The level of design is very wide. In fact, there are designs everywhere in life. It can make our lives more convenient, and can also make ordinary things more simple and beautiful in appearance through design. FS: What kinds of works do you like designing most? WY: Furniture design FS: What was the first thing you designed for a company? WY: There is currently no company. FS: What is your favorite material / platform / technology? WY: My favorite materials are metal, acrylic and wood. Pinterest is my favorite design platform to watch FS: When do you feel the most creative? WY: Suddenly thought of the most creative ideas. FS: Which aspects of a design do you focus more during designing? WY: Aesthetics and materials FS: What kind of emotions do you feel when you design? WY: ups and downs FS: What kind of emotions do you feel when your designs are realized? WY: Very touched and a sense of accomplishment FS: What makes a design successful? WY: do not give up FS: When judging a design as good or bad, which aspects do you consider first? WY: Whether it can be actually produced. FS: From your point of view, what are the responsibilities of a designer for society and environment? WY: Make life more convenient FS: How do you think the "design field" is evolving? What is the future of design? WY: The design includes a wide range of levels, and every industry is closely related to design. Design will make life more perfect and beautiful in the future. FS: When was your last exhibition and where was it? And when do you want to hold your next exhibition? WY: Last exhibition is November 2019 Next exhibition hall 2020 November. FS: Where does the design inspiration for your works come from? How do you feed your creativity? What are your sources of inspirations? WY: Inspired by life. FS: How would you describe your design style? What made you explore more this style and what are the main characteristics of your style? What's your approach to design? WY: Most of my products are art-oriented, and the functionality may not be as strong, but they are visually stunning. FS: Where do you live? Do you feel the cultural heritage of your country affects your designs? What are the pros and cons during designing as a result of living in your country? WY: Taipei,Taiwan. In different cultures and countries, how much will affect the products designed by the designer, so that the products are more unique. FS: How do you work with companies? WY: There is currently no company FS: What are your suggestions to companies for working with a designer? How can companies select a good designer? WY: There is currently no company FS: Can you talk a little about your design process? WY: The process may be very hard, but when you see the product, you can get a sense of accomplishment and satisfaction. FS: What are 5 of your favorite design items at home? WY: Furniture,Lighting,Trial FS: Can you describe a day in your life? WY: Full of surprises FS: Could you please share some pearls of wisdom for young designers? What are your suggestions to young, up and coming designers? WY: Everyone's value is limitless, through his own creativity can make perfect works. FS: From your perspective, what would you say are some positives and negatives of being a designer? WY: Can design beautiful and functional products. Need to stay up all night. FS: What skills are most important for a designer? WY: Keen observation and beauty. FS: Which tools do you use during design? What is inside your toolbox? Such as software, application, hardware, books, sources of inspiration etc.? WY: Rhino,Ps,Ai,CNC FS: Designing can sometimes be a really time consuming task, how do you manage your time? WY: Arrange the timetable and follow the timetable as much as possible. FS: How long does it take to design an object from beginning to end? WY: Half a year. FS: What is the most frequently asked question to you, as a designer? WY: How to modify to make the design better. FS: What was your most important job experience? WY: Interior design company internship. FS: Who are some of your clients? WY: no FS: What type of design work do you enjoy the most and why? WY: Simple style design. FS: What are your future plans? What is next for you? WY: Prepare master thesis and graduation exhibition. FS: Do you work as a team, or do you develop your designs yourself? WY: Develop and design by myself FS: Do you have any works-in-progress being designed that you would like to talk about? WY: Prepare to present new works with visual expression.
