Interview with Marian Visterniceanu at Tuesday 16th of May 2023 FS: Could you please tell us more about your art and design background? What made you become an artist/designer? Have you always wanted to be a designer? MV: I come from a family of artists, my father is a traditional craftsman in artistic wood processing in the Republic of Moldova. My mother is also passionate about making and decorating wooden items while my close relatives are painters and musicians. I knew what beauty was from a young age. Because I was always the first at artistic activities in school, I was seen as “A man of art", I had no other choice. Willingly and encouraged by everyone, I continued to study interior design because I was motivated in this direction. Note! I am not a native English speaker, it gives you the right to rectify the answers to the all questions, keeping their meaning. It is also allowed to translate the answers into any language. You can contact me for additional questions at marian@visterniceanu.com. FS: Can you tell us more about your company / design studio? MV: Based on the clients' needs, I managed to form a professional team that could create the perfect project, tailored specifically for each client. Working in the same way as the parts of a mechanical watch, a team work can create the most customized interior design projects. The company offers complete design services, from ideas to constructions, furniture, and decorative pieces in the home; helping clients to save time, nerves, and money. The interior design department is at clients’ disposal to find the perfect solution for fitting and decorating the homes. From surveys to furnishing plans and 3D simulations, our designers provide our clients with all the needed information for completing the work. FS: What is "design" for you? MV: For me, design is a science that combines exact theory with art, resulting in a golden intersection in all its forms. Everything surrounding us is created with this formula. FS: What kinds of works do you like designing most? MV: I pay special attention to efficient space planning stage. I put extra emphasis on ergonomics and functionalism. FS: What is your most favorite design, could you please tell more about it? MV: Every project I created is unique and different from all others. I don't have a design style that represents me, though I wish I had, the footprint of over 250 beneficiaries with different requirements and over 300 projects in 14 years of activity has taught me to be diverse. It made me know perfectly all the styles and practice the mastery of interior design in all its directions, applying in all those situations a well-polished aesthetic and ergonomic formula - the formula for creating a perfect interior for a certain client. My projects are my clients. They find themselves in the designs I created for them. FS: What is your favorite material / platform / technology? MV: I believe that any material is beautiful when you know how to show its value. The scenography and marketing knowledge combined with design talent can amaze you visually. Materials are the words that we designers express ourselves with. I don't have a favorite word. FS: Which aspects of a design do you focus more during designing? MV: Usually I tend to be overly organized being pretentious and favouring comfort. This influences my approach in design, I will pay more attention to each interior’s ergonomics and then aesthetics. I tend towards simplistic interiors that offer a note of luxury. The most minimalist and modern interior created by me will definitely have a luxurious character. FS: What makes a design successful? MV: My projects are the people and their positive emotions experienced in the houses I design. For me, a successful project is when the client is satisfied with the result. FS: When judging a design as good or bad, which aspects do you consider first? MV: Every design has a purpose. If a design project fulfills the task for which it was created, it means that it is good. FS: Where does the design inspiration for your works come from? How do you feed your creativity? What are your sources of inspirations? MV: How strange as it may seem, I am inspired to create only when I am in an organized environment. I like when everything is in its place, I start my work activity by making sure everything is where it should be. FS: How would you describe your design style? What made you explore more this style and what are the main characteristics of your style? What's your approach to design? MV: Every project I created is unique and different from all others. I don't have a design style which represents me, though I wish I had, but the footprint of over 250 beneficiaries with different requirements and over 300 projects in 14 years of activity has taught me to be diverse. It made me know perfectly all the styles and practice the mastery of interior design in all its directions, applying in all those situations a well-polished aesthetic and ergonomic formula - the formula for creating a perfect interior for a certain client. My projects are my clients. They find themselves in the designs I created for them. FS: Which tools do you use during design? What is inside your toolbox? Such as software, application, hardware, books, sources of inspiration etc.? MV: I am a contemporary designer, I implement the latest technologies in the process of creating my projects. They are drawn in computer graphic programs, the results are viewed in 3D, and in the last 3 years, all our projects are presented in a VR 360 panoramic tour. We recently have started implementing AR technology. This gives our clients a clear picture of the design project. For designers, this way is a more accurate manner of expressing themselves. FS: Designing can sometimes be a really time consuming task, how do you manage your time? MV: One of my favorite testimonials from my clients is "responsible and organized designer". I consider that time is the most precious, I tend to use it as effectively as possible and fortunately I manage to do so. This is proved by the projects' short timeframe and meeting deadlines. FS: Who are some of your clients? MV: My style revolves around luxurious projects, in which I implement the latest smart home technologies. My clients are mostly business owners, investors and people who put great emphasis on the value of the materials used in their homes - expensive ones. FS: How can people contact you? MV: We promote ourselves by investment in our clients. We do not focus much on the online environment, however it is still the easiest way to contact us. By accessing www.visterniceanu.com you can contact the department that you need. Those who want to contact me personally can do so by emailing me at marian@visterniceanu.com. I am mostly traveling which makes it difficult to reach me on the phone, but you can try and contact me on WhatsApp at +37369072348. FS: Any other things you would like to cover that have not been covered in these questions? MV: In an interior design project what is the best investment? I'm passionate about technology. I may not know the latest news in politics but I definitely know things like the latest type of processor presented by "Intel" or the newest technologies for a smart home. I tend to implement everything I know in my projects, I recommend this investment. However, in a design project, what really matters is the lighting system. Where would you like to escape? Why? I am a sociable person, I like to be where there is a lot of life and action, I only escape for a short recreation or to spend more time with my family. I feel good where there are people, they inspire me. This is the reason why I chose to expand my studio in New York. How are important are accessories in your projects? It depends on the goal I am pursuing, but for sure their absence or presence certainly helps me to convey the exact message of the design concept Note! I am not a native English speaker, it gives you the right to rectify the answers to the all questions, keeping their meaning. It is also allowed to translate the answers into any language.
