Interview with Wanxiao Zhang at Wednesday 6th of May 2020 FS: Could you please tell us more about your art and design background? What made you become an artist/designer? Have you always wanted to be a designer? WZ: When I was a child, I began to like painting. My major in university was interior design. I was infatuated with colors and different materials. Determined to be a designer FS: Can you tell us more about your company / design studio? WZ: we are designed and constructed together. There is no project manager, the company directly manages the model. This material is very sufficient, and the technological requirements will be solid. The design is also the whole case. The hardware and software are the same designer, so the customer's experience and the continuity of the work will be better. FS: What is "design" for you? WZ: Good design, good expression, good presentation FS: What kinds of works do you like designing most? WZ: Design with habitant temperament FS: What is your most favorite design, could you please tell more about it? WZ: There are fireworks, motives, feelings of wrapping and games. FS: What was the first thing you designed for a company? WZ: The company's own office FS: What is your favorite material / platform / technology? WZ: Changes in lighting FS: When do you feel the most creative? WZ: Late night overtime FS: Which aspects of a design do you focus more during designing? WZ: Very unified and coordinated FS: What makes a design successful? WZ: Persistence and love FS: When judging a design as good or bad, which aspects do you consider first? WZ: Is it suitable for customers? FS: From your point of view, what are the responsibilities of a designer for society and environment? WZ: Designers need to bring the most cutting-edge information and respect their own way of life to everyone around them, and design changes their lives. FS: How do you think the "design field" is evolving? What is the future of design? WZ: Less and less attention is paid to visual impact, starting from the depths of the heart. FS: When was your last exhibition and where was it? And when do you want to hold your next exhibition? WZ: Unfortunately, not yet. FS: Where does the design inspiration for your works come from? How do you feed your creativity? What are your sources of inspirations? WZ: Inspiration comes from customers FS: How would you describe your design style? What made you explore more this style and what are the main characteristics of your style? What's your approach to design? WZ: Modern New Oriental style, very introverted, very clean. I like weak contrast and try to unify the materials. FS: Where do you live? Do you feel the cultural heritage of your country affects your designs? What are the pros and cons during designing as a result of living in your country? WZ: I am in China. Confucian culture is introverted and rational, and will go deep into our marrow. Family views are very strong. FS: How do you work with companies? WZ: I am the founder FS: What are your suggestions to companies for working with a designer? How can companies select a good designer? WZ: Companies need people who love design and designers who like learning. FS: Can you talk a little about your design process? WZ: From the ventilation, lighting, space moving line thinking, then consider the residents' age, living habits, FS: What are 5 of your favorite design items at home? WZ: Cooking, reading, drinking tea, painting, watching movies FS: Can you describe a day in your life? WZ: Busy, full and hard FS: Could you please share some pearls of wisdom for young designers? What are your suggestions to young, up and coming designers? WZ: Persistence, Confidence, Love FS: From your perspective, what would you say are some positives and negatives of being a designer? WZ: On the positive side: Each case has different backgrounds, customers and styles. Negative side: too hard to spend too much time with children. FS: What is your "golden rule" in design? WZ: Intuition, when hesitating, respect your first feeling. FS: What skills are most important for a designer? WZ: Communication, expression FS: Which tools do you use during design? What is inside your toolbox? Such as software, application, hardware, books, sources of inspiration etc.? WZ: CAD,SU Look at books on philosophy and emotion FS: Designing can sometimes be a really time consuming task, how do you manage your time? WZ: Proper waste of time is not a bad thing. Is also a change of mood FS: How long does it take to design an object from beginning to end? WZ: 3 months FS: What is the most frequently asked question to you, as a designer? WZ: What did I do this design for FS: What was your most important job experience? WZ: Start the current company FS: What type of design work do you enjoy the most and why? WZ: Private residence, because can understand different life and life FS: What are your future plans? What is next for you?
