Interview with Mizuho Suzuki at Tuesday 9th of July 2024 FS: Could you please tell us more about your art and design background? What made you become an artist/designer? Have you always wanted to be a designer? MS: I first became interested in design in my mid-teens, when I was fascinated by the beautiful photos and layouts in interior design magazines. FS: Can you tell us more about your company / design studio? MS: Freelance graphic designer. FS: What is "design" for you? MS: Small ideas to make society or life more enjoyable and enriching. FS: What kinds of works do you like designing most? MS: Symbols and logos FS: What was the first thing you designed for a company? MS: Lingerie gift packaging design FS: What is your favorite material / platform / technology? MS: Paper/Printing FS: When do you feel the most creative? MS: When a good idea strikes FS: What kind of emotions do you feel when you design? MS: I feel excited and thrilled. FS: What kind of emotions do you feel when your designs are realized? MS: Satisfaction, happiness FS: What makes a design successful? MS: A bird's-eye view FS: When judging a design as good or bad, which aspects do you consider first? MS: Overall balance FS: From your point of view, what are the responsibilities of a designer for society and environment? MS: Don't increase waste FS: How do you think the "design field" is evolving? What is the future of design? MS: I'm amazed at the progress of generative AI. I think there will be a return to analog someday, but I can't imagine what that will look like. FS: Where do you live? Do you feel the cultural heritage of your country affects your designs? What are the pros and cons during designing as a result of living in your country? MS: I live in Japan. I feel influenced by the country's cultural heritage. The advantage is its simplicity. The disadvantage is that it lacks global appeal. FS: How do you work with companies? MS: I usually receive orders through an agency, but sometimes we take orders directly. FS: What is your "golden rule" in design? MS: Proper white space and balance FS: What skills are most important for a designer? MS: Observe the details while also analyzing objectively from a bird's-eye view FS: Which tools do you use during design? What is inside your toolbox? Such as software, application, hardware, books, sources of inspiration etc.? MS: Paper and pencil. Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, Desktop PC, iPad FS: What type of design work do you enjoy the most and why? MS: Logo creation. Some logos are only used for a short time, but if we're lucky, there's a chance they'll be loved for 100 years to come, and that's what makes it so romantic. FS: Do you work as a team, or do you develop your designs yourself? MS: I'm developing it myself. FS: How can people contact you? MS: Please contact by email.
