Interview with Mizuho Suzuki

Home > Designer Interviews > Mizuho Suzuki

Editor Frank Scott (FS) from DesignPRWire has interviewed designer Mizuho Suzuki (MS) for A’ Design Award and Competition. You can access the full profile of Mizuho Suzuki by clicking here.

Interview with Mizuho Suzuki at Tuesday 9th of July 2024

FS: Could you please tell us more about your art and design background? What made you become an artist/designer? Have you always wanted to be a designer?
MS: I first became interested in design in my mid-teens, when I was fascinated by the beautiful photos and layouts in interior design magazines.

FS: Can you tell us more about your company / design studio?
MS: Freelance graphic designer.

FS: What is "design" for you?
MS: Small ideas to make society or life more enjoyable and enriching.

FS: What kinds of works do you like designing most?
MS: Symbols and logos

FS: What was the first thing you designed for a company?
MS: Lingerie gift packaging design

FS: What is your favorite material / platform / technology?
MS: Paper/Printing

FS: When do you feel the most creative?
MS: When a good idea strikes

FS: What kind of emotions do you feel when you design?
MS: I feel excited and thrilled.

FS: What kind of emotions do you feel when your designs are realized?
MS: Satisfaction, happiness

FS: What makes a design successful?
MS: A bird's-eye view

FS: When judging a design as good or bad, which aspects do you consider first?
MS: Overall balance

FS: From your point of view, what are the responsibilities of a designer for society and environment?
MS: Don't increase waste

FS: How do you think the "design field" is evolving? What is the future of design?
MS: I'm amazed at the progress of generative AI. I think there will be a return to analog someday, but I can't imagine what that will look like.

FS: Where do you live? Do you feel the cultural heritage of your country affects your designs? What are the pros and cons during designing as a result of living in your country?
MS: I live in Japan. I feel influenced by the country's cultural heritage. The advantage is its simplicity. The disadvantage is that it lacks global appeal.

FS: How do you work with companies?
MS: I usually receive orders through an agency, but sometimes we take orders directly.

FS: What is your "golden rule" in design?
MS: Proper white space and balance

FS: What skills are most important for a designer?
MS: Observe the details while also analyzing objectively from a bird's-eye view

FS: Which tools do you use during design? What is inside your toolbox? Such as software, application, hardware, books, sources of inspiration etc.?
MS: Paper and pencil. Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, Desktop PC, iPad

FS: What type of design work do you enjoy the most and why?
MS: Logo creation. Some logos are only used for a short time, but if we're lucky, there's a chance they'll be loved for 100 years to come, and that's what makes it so romantic.

FS: Do you work as a team, or do you develop your designs yourself?
MS: I'm developing it myself.

FS: How can people contact you?
MS: Please contact by email.

FS: Thank you for providing us with this opportunity to interview you.
