Interview with Notash Ghajar Dadjoo at Saturday 30th of May 2020
Notash Dadjoo
FS: Can you tell us more about your company / design studio?
NGD: The Studio has been formed since 2018 to find a bridge between environmental science and building industry in professional practices. By focusing on sustainability, environmental design, and interdisciplinary solutions alongside spacial and formal aesthetics, the design approach of this studio created to take a small part in solving environmental issues of our built environment and to fulfill all the needs of the clients.

FS: What kinds of works do you like designing most?
NGD: Every design has its challenge, and overcoming that challenge is more likely for me rather than limiting my self in a specific design area in architecture. But designing cultural and sports buildings gives more pleasure than other projects.

FS: What was the first thing you designed for a company?
NGD: The first design I had done was an interior design of small retail back in 2007. The client was not a direct client of mine, and he had a contract with a plywood dealer, who was my neighbor at that time. I designed and built that project when I was an undergraduate student.

FS: When do you feel the most creative?
NGD: I feel more creative when I'm not pushed by the client to follow other designer's methods for problem-solving. But my most creativity comes when I had to solve a problem and add my design perspective, which always appears after advanced research about the problem.

FS: Which aspects of a design do you focus more during designing?
NGD: Environmental aspects, Functionality, Aesthetics, Spatial perception

FS: What kind of emotions do you feel when you design?
NGD: I always feel joy during the design process and eager to add new and innovative things with spatial complexity to the design. Every time I finish a design project, an immense sense of enthusiasm surrounds me to build it.

FS: Designing can sometimes be a really time consuming task, how do you manage your time?
NGD: I always set a timeline for every project which has specified the duration of every step. I push myself and the team to complete each stage of the work according to schedule.

FS: How long does it take to design an object from beginning to end?
NGD: Depend on the scale of the project it can be two months to two years for designing the whole project with all the researches, designs, architectural drafting, technical drawings, and other aspects of the project.

FS: What is the most frequently asked question to you, as a designer?
NGD: Is it aesthetically right? Is it innovative? Does it satisfy the needs of the client properly? Does it function well? Is the project environmentally connected to other environmental aspects of the site? Can it be perceived well by other people, especially the users?

FS: What was your most important job experience?
NGD: Before I start my studio, I had the privilege of working as Senior Architect, Senior Architectural Designer, Engineering Supervisor, and run and Construction Manager in various projects from medium to mega sizes. The experience I gained during those projects was tremendously helpful in my journey as an architect.

FS: Who are some of your clients?
NGD: Municipality of Hamedan, Ayandeh Bank, CEO of Asanbar co., Dr. Reza Dehghan

FS: Do you work as a team, or do you develop your designs yourself?
NGD: I design the first raw concept, but in the design development, I prefer to work as a team and use other people's mindset for enriching the design.

FS: How can people contact you?
NGD: Everyone can contact me through my email, cell phone no. , Telegram, WhatsApp, Instagram, LinkedIn, and my website, which contains all the contact information.

FS: Thank you for providing us with this opportunity to interview you.
