Interview with Asal Najafi at Tuesday 5th of May 2020 FS: Could you please tell us more about your art and design background? What made you become an artist/designer? Have you always wanted to be a designer? AN: Actually I am an Electric Power Engineer but I always loved to customized everything for myself. On the other hand, I am a fine jewelry lover. One day, it just came to my mind, why don't I do design for myself and why not making my custom made pieces of jewelry? And that point was the beginning of my journey to the world of jewelry designing. FS: Can you tell us more about your company / design studio? AN: I just started in 2018 and I could see myself as a successful jewelry designer in the near future. FS: What is your favorite material / platform / technology? AN: Precious metals, gems, and stones. FS: When was your last exhibition and where was it? And when do you want to hold your next exhibition? AN: Actually this is my first exhibition which I attend. FS: Where does the design inspiration for your works come from? How do you feed your creativity? What are your sources of inspirations? AN: It just comes to my mind and then I try to imagine different designs and how can I make it more unique and then I start to sketch my ideas and then try to implement it in the designing software. FS: From your perspective, what would you say are some positives and negatives of being a designer? AN: I like designing and all I see is the positive side of that. When I design something unique it means you creating something new. FS: Which tools do you use during design? What is inside your toolbox? Such as software, application, hardware, books, sources of inspiration etc.? AN: Right now I am using Matrix Gemvision, Zbrush as my designing software and I use Pinterest as one of my inspiration sources. FS: How long does it take to design an object from beginning to end? AN: It really depends on the complexity of the design. I cannot say exactly how long it does take. it can vary between a day to a couple of weeks. FS: What is the most frequently asked question to you, as a designer? AN: How can make my design customized and unique? FS: What type of design work do you enjoy the most and why? AN: Of course jewelry design and besides I enjoy interior design and garden design. FS: What are your future plans? What is next for you? AN: I am just at the beginning of this journey, and I would like to get as much as I can into it and develop my knowledge and competence. FS: Do you work as a team, or do you develop your designs yourself? AN: Right now I develop my designs by myself. FS: Do you have any works-in-progress being designed that you would like to talk about? AN: Not really, I am thinking of a new design right now. FS: How can people contact you? AN: Via my email, my phone, and my Instagram page.
