Interview with Enrico Enrieu and Emanuela Zaniboni at Tuesday 28th of April 2020
Enrico Enrieu
FS: Could you please tell us more about your art and design background? What made you become an artist/designer? Have you always wanted to be a designer?
EEAEZ: I love the details and I am a good observer, I love what is beautiful. I love what is functional. I became a designer because the push to create was born of a personal need

FS: Can you tell us more about your company / design studio?
EEAEZ: The company was born 2 years ago because, after having designed the bag and made a craft prototype, we understood the validity of the project and it was necessary to register a brand for its uniqueness and to be able to start with a small production and understand the peolple answer

FS: What is "design" for you?
EEAEZ: Design is idea, beauty, functionality. Design is to enrich people's lives with something that can satisfy and make them happy. Design is a little, big dream

FS: What kinds of works do you like designing most?
EEAEZ: Accessories, beautiful and useful

FS: What is your most favorite design, could you please tell more about it?
EEAEZ: Generally speaking, my preference goes to the style of sports car models from 1950 to 1970

FS: What was the first thing you designed for a company?
EEAEZ: This is the first project conceived, wanted and created for me and for people who use a two wheels vehicle and want to give a specific function to the jet helmet. The first in my life

FS: What is your favorite material / platform / technology?
EEAEZ: We must face reality. The human being has great abilities that can and must be put at the service of the planet. Reuse what pollutes the planet, transform it and give it new life. From my point of view, plastic remains the biggest and most urgent problem. We must find solutions to eliminate as much as possible. Recovery and recycling are my priority

FS: When do you feel the most creative?
EEAEZ: Always I believe. My brain never stops.

FS: Which aspects of a design do you focus more during designing?
EEAEZ: First the eye shot. I like to cath the originality and functionality and the two concepts must be harmonic with among them. If the design is also beautiful, then I think this is the greatest result

FS: What kind of emotions do you feel when you design?
EEAEZ: Happiness and satisfaction

FS: What kind of emotions do you feel when your designs are realized?
EEAEZ: A great emotion. See and touch your idea, your model, for me and for everyone

FS: What makes a design successful?
EEAEZ: The beauty and the useful

FS: When judging a design as good or bad, which aspects do you consider first?
EEAEZ: Practical, comfort, aesthetics

FS: From your point of view, what are the responsibilities of a designer for society and environment?
EEAEZ: It is difficult to think that any project cannot be carried out today without using materials that do not derive from recovery or recycling whenever possible. It is now our responsibility to take action to protect the environment

FS: How do you think the "design field" is evolving? What is the future of design?
EEAEZ: The design of the future will marry eco-sustainability. We can not pretend anything and therefore any creation will absolutely have to take this aspect into account. It is really too important

FS: When was your last exhibition and where was it? And when do you want to hold your next exhibition?
EEAEZ: This is the first exhibition for me and I don't know about the future because this is a very difficult historical moment and of great uncertainty about the future

FS: Where does the design inspiration for your works come from? How do you feed your creativity? What are your sources of inspirations?
EEAEZ: My inspiration simply comes from what surrounds me. People, objects, environments and identify what can be improved, make something more beautiful or more useful. Or, in my case, create something that improves our life better every day during our travels

FS: How would you describe your design style? What made you explore more this style and what are the main characteristics of your style? What's your approach to design?
EEAEZ: Urban style. The main features are aesthetics, comfort and portability

FS: Where do you live? Do you feel the cultural heritage of your country affects your designs? What are the pros and cons during designing as a result of living in your country?
EEAEZ: I am Italian and I live in Italy. Mine is a country with a vast artistic and cultural heritage. We are the cradle of art, of fashion, of food, of wine. It is easy to get inspired when surrounded by beauty and goodness

FS: How do you work with companies?
EEAEZ: I have looked for synergy. I looked for experienced, capable and direct people. Sincere and prepared And luckily I found them; we talk and confront each other, every day I learned something and something I gave. There are many meetings, monthly meetings and daily telephone contacts

FS: What are your suggestions to companies for working with a designer? How can companies select a good designer?
EEAEZ: Elasticity and give the right advice and suggestions without taking away the identity of the project and giving the right space to its creator

FS: Can you talk a little about your design process?
EEAEZ: First of all the important thing was the search for ecosustainable recycling and recovery materials to package our bag. No less important is to maintain the entire production chain for production not only nationally but regionally reaching the goal, a product all Made in Italy

FS: What are 5 of your favorite design items at home?
EEAEZ: First, certainly my garden, designed and redesigned by me in the green and rocky spaces. For me it is now pure design for the exterior. And then one of the first calculating machines designed in the world, in the year 1920 and an Olivetti typewriter, 1940. An ancient Venetian-style wardrobe that belonged to my great-grandfather. A leather travel bag from the 1940

FS: Can you describe a day in your life?
EEAEZ: Wake up at 6 am. Breakfast and then in the laboratory. Meeting people, doing work, comparing myself. You learn a lot from people. In the evening at home, with my family

FS: Could you please share some pearls of wisdom for young designers? What are your suggestions to young, up and coming designers?
EEAEZ: Believe in your abilities and dreams, listen to who is older because that person has certainly gained defeats and victories, pains and joys. Submit the project to several categories of people to collect consents, criticisms and suggestions

FS: From your perspective, what would you say are some positives and negatives of being a designer?
EEAEZ: The privilege of being able to express yourself but at the same time be exposed to criticism, don't be understood or feel distrust about something new

FS: What is your "golden rule" in design?
EEAEZ: For me a strongly identifying logo, which becomes an emotional image, which represents who you are and what you have created. And the materials used

FS: What skills are most important for a designer?
EEAEZ: The vision, courage, patience

FS: Which tools do you use during design? What is inside your toolbox? Such as software, application, hardware, books, sources of inspiration etc.?
EEAEZ: For this first and only project we went to look in the toolbox and we used everything there was: fabrics, zippers, needle, thread, paper, pencils, intuition, fantasy, love and many ideas

FS: Designing can sometimes be a really time consuming task, how do you manage your time?
EEAEZ: Working hard, dividing my time between the dental technician job and the start up

FS: How long does it take to design an object from beginning to end?
EEAEZ: For me in this case 20 days without distractions , probably a sudden shock

FS: What is the most frequently asked question to you, as a designer?
EEAEZ: How did you come up with the first helmet cover?

FS: What was your most important job experience?
EEAEZ: The next

FS: Who are some of your clients?
EEAEZ: All jet helmet users, for those who use scooters, and electric scooters and skiers. Anyone with a helmet to protect and wear with elegance

FS: What type of design work do you enjoy the most and why?
EEAEZ: Without a doubt the search for materials because they lead me to meet new realities and new people

FS: What are your future plans? What is next for you?
EEAEZ: Mine is a green product, made with recycled and recycled materials. I hope to be able to collaborate soon and significantly with the world of electric vehicles

FS: Do you work as a team, or do you develop your designs yourself?
EEAEZ: By myself first of all. Then is important to compare with my collaborator, my suppliers, my friends and my family

FS: Do you have any works-in-progress being designed that you would like to talk about?
EEAEZ: Yes, of corse. We are working on the new collection,on the news colors and on the insertion of a second measure

FS: How can people contact you?
EEAEZ: By email or telephon numer or Instagram or Facebook or web site

FS: Any other things you would like to cover that have not been covered in these questions?
EEAEZ: It was an extraordinary experience and I want to thank all the people who helped me, supported me and who believe in my design and especially my collaborator Emanuela Zaniboni who plays a fundamental role for the Toba, my family and my suppliers
