Interview with Seunghyun Kang at Saturday 2nd of March 2019 FS: Could you please tell us more about your art and design background? What made you become an artist/designer? Have you always wanted to be a designer? SK: When I was young, I liked to paint simply, but I thought about the designer who became materialized from high school, and I am dreaming of becoming a famous designer who can move people's behavior or mind. FS: Can you tell us more about your company / design studio? SK: Currently, he belongs to a small company called 'ecobridge' and is studying in the New Media Design Department at Hanyang Cyber University. FS: What is "design" for you? SK: "To express one's thoughts in a form" is probably the simplest interpretation. FS: What kinds of works do you like designing most? SK: I am very interested in UX and BX and I like them. FS: What is your most favorite design, could you please tell more about it? SK: I like modern card design in Korea. I think we are developing Font first and continuing our experience from BX to UX naturally. FS: What was the first thing you designed for a company? SK: I think it was a character design at first. After that, I experienced UX through the application called Widget. FS: What is your favorite material / platform / technology? SK: Some colors collect some color sets by taking pictures, and iMac and Photoshop are good for equipment. FS: When do you feel the most creative? SK: When you feel comfortable in your own space, you come up with the most creative ideas. FS: Which aspects of a design do you focus more during designing? SK: I tend to think a lot about the tone of the grid and its design. FS: What kind of emotions do you feel when you design? SK: Start with a thrill and design with pain and joy of pain. FS: What kind of emotions do you feel when your designs are realized? SK: It's fun because I want to let the world know what I made. FS: What makes a design successful? SK: Marketing success may be a little different, but I think if it's a personal standard of success, it's freedom and concentration. This is because I think concentration is an important factor in doing something. FS: When judging a design as good or bad, which aspects do you consider first? SK: Similar to people, first impressions are important. I think the first impression should be good, and in detail it's usability. So the grid and trend are basically considered. FS: From your point of view, what are the responsibilities of a designer for society and environment? SK: I think it creates a new order in a way. For example, a signal, a smartphone So the role of designer is important. FS: How do you think the "design field" is evolving? What is the future of design? SK: Design has evolved to be central, not additional, and it is likely to be more so in the future. It is likely to develop from what is seen to what is now audible. FS: Where does the design inspiration for your works come from? How do you feed your creativity? What are your sources of inspirations? SK: I don't think there's a place where you get as good inspiration as research. So I see a lot on the design site and go on a trip. FS: How would you describe your design style? What made you explore more this style and what are the main characteristics of your style? What's your approach to design? SK: I think it's a change. I'm sure some people feel who I am, but I want to study various styles in various fields, and the most important approach is to orient the brand a lot. FS: Where do you live? Do you feel the cultural heritage of your country affects your designs? What are the pros and cons during designing as a result of living in your country? SK: I live in Seoul, Korea. I think the most beautiful design in our country is Hangul. Hangul is beautiful in form and can be varied in variation.The advantages and disadvantages of designing in South Korea are that speed is very fast when carrying out a project. FS: How do you work with companies? SK: In some cases, I work only by email, but I usually collaborate in the office. FS: What are your suggestions to companies for working with a designer? How can companies select a good designer? SK: Basically, verification is important, so we know that many people with knowledge are looking for qualified personnel. We can't find everyone through acquaintances.Transparency in the portfolio and the history or responsibility for previous work will likely continue to be a factor that the company finds designers. FS: Can you talk a little about your design process? SK: We look at the basic elements in three major ways: analyze trends to see what technologies are available.Analyze the services of other companies to find improvement and direction.Analyse the direction of the tone of its brand and put three factors together to set the design direction.After the work, it seems that the basic framework is to allow team members or individuals to complete the work through continuous develop. FS: What are 5 of your favorite design items at home? SK: iMac, iPhone, AirPot, MousePad, Figur FS: Can you describe a day in your life? SK: One day you can see it at work, school, home.The company has a limited design, and the school is free to study. FS: Could you please share some pearls of wisdom for young designers? What are your suggestions to young, up and coming designers? SK: I want to make some plans and design is fun but hard job. I hope you like design more. FS: From your perspective, what would you say are some positives and negatives of being a designer? SK: While there is a positive side that if the project goes ahead with the original design and leads to good results, it creates a new creation.Sometimes, for projects with a large number of stakeholders, design goes in the unwanted direction. When that happens, I feel the negative side of being an expert and a designer. FS: What is your "golden rule" in design? SK: 7:3? I don't really know the question. FS: What skills are most important for a designer? SK: I think it's a quick hand and a quick thought. You can try many things as soon as you can. FS: Which tools do you use during design? What is inside your toolbox? Such as software, application, hardware, books, sources of inspiration etc.? SK: Photoshop, illustration, XD, Sketch as the basis, and sometimes video tools are used. FS: Designing can sometimes be a really time consuming task, how do you manage your time? SK: When I rest, I eat coffee and talk, but when I concentrate, I try to concentrate best. I try not to waste my time surfing the messenger website.So if you can use your time efficiently and physically require a lot of time, you're going to have to do it.I sometimes bring my work home and extend it. FS: How long does it take to design an object from beginning to end? SK: In short, sometimes you have to produce concepts from concept to Xi'an within a week, sometimes you have to give a graphic performance within four days, and it seems different from project to project. FS: What is the most frequently asked question to you, as a designer? SK: Are you doing well? Is this for the best? Are you sure you don't have time? FS: What was your most important job experience? SK: I've never done anything but design. In the past, I had a chance to do web, mobile, and kiosk all at once, and it was a project experience that was very helpful. FS: Who are some of your clients? SK: There are usually news agency or marketing company agencies. FS: What type of design work do you enjoy the most and why? SK: I want to do a piece that shares the experience of the user experience brand and I think it will be fun.It seems worthwhile to carry on with the experience. FS: What are your future plans? What is next for you? SK: I think that the company is changing from the structure of the designer looking for the company to the market for the designer.We will further enhance our personal abilities to become the designer that the company is looking for. FS: Do you work as a team, or do you develop your designs yourself? SK: It's different from project to project. Basic is done alone, but in the design process, it collaborates with team members. FS: Do you have any works-in-progress being designed that you would like to talk about? SK: I was asking a question at the top, and I want to plan and design a structure that finds a good designer.
