Editor Frank Scott (FS) from DesignPRWire has interviewed designer Claudia Perle (CP) for A’ Design Award and Competition. You can access the full profile of Claudia Perle by clicking here.

Interview with Claudia Perle at Monday 8th of April 2019
Claudia Perle
FS: Could you please tell us more about your art and design background? What made you become an artist/designer? Have you always wanted to be a designer?
CP: Well my background is the alternativ medicine so called naturopathy. When you understand what your value is, how you create it and why. It makes it much easier to advocate for yourself and stand your ground. This is always the beginning of a challenging journey whether in medicine or in another field.

FS: Can you tell us more about your company / design studio?
CP: BIOBEE Health Consulting is a family-owned company located in the municipality Switzerland. Myself, Claudia Perle, I am a naturopath, who has already worked also in China. I am the second generation. My mother, Brigitta Stucki, a nutrition consultant and founder of this company. We are working with the main objective to market bee products in the Health Care as a lifestyle companion. Behind this is an experience of more than 25 years in the field of natural resources. As the name suggests, BIOBEE places special emphasis on "products" of bees. As mother-daughter duo we have been fascinated for years by the performance and the products of the bee beekeeping and also because of their professional background knowledge and the positive experiences of their importance for our life aspects.

FS: What is "design" for you?
CP: To bring the need, your personal sense of aesthetics and natural respect into line for our presence. Great design is a limitless art form and I've tried to express and be drawn to it. Time and again it has the power to remind us that, more than the differences that divide us, it's our similarities that bind us.

FS: What is your most favorite design, could you please tell more about it?
CP: Hold on to your power... It's possible to be respectful, collegial and even a little coddling without giving away your power. So for me that is the starting point where new design finds its way. Than every work, design is my most favorite one at the time.

FS: What was the first thing you designed for a company?
CP: A pyramid leporello

FS: What is your favorite material / platform / technology?
CP: Natural sourced one

FS: When do you feel the most creative?
CP: When I am under pressure and have the need. Know what your goals are, but allow for diversions and spontaneity along the way. Intension coupled with flexibility is a powerful combination.

FS: Which aspects of a design do you focus more during designing?
CP: Functionality, clarity and pureness with colour. Do things that unleash the inner child. Things that put a huge, goofy smile on your face. That this and turn it into the position you need.

FS: What kind of emotions do you feel when you design?
CP: It's impossible to newer make mistakes, but if you trust your instincts and stay true to what consistent with your beliefs, those mistakes will rarely translate to regret. So again stay open, self-reflected and focused on your work.

FS: What kind of emotions do you feel when your designs are realized?
CP: Mentoring in any form is a powerful tool. It doesn't matter where we may be in our careers, there is always someone who could benefit from ones experience and advice, including myself. So I triy to keep my mind, feelings and awareness wide open.

FS: What makes a design successful?
CP: Normal daily use.

FS: When was your last exhibition and where was it? And when do you want to hold your next exhibition?
CP: Italy, Bozen in March 2019 for Apitherapy. The next big one will be Apimondia in September in Canada.

FS: Where do you live? Do you feel the cultural heritage of your country affects your designs? What are the pros and cons during designing as a result of living in your country?
CP: Switzerland. Swiss people are open for pureness and clarity. So from this side: YES

FS: How do you work with companies?
CP: We look for common aspects and improve what we can do best out of each potential. So both sides have advantages of this connection.

FS: Can you talk a little about your design process?
CP: In 2010/11 we start to relauch our design. We wanted to have a design which represent a healthy lifestyle without pointing of a special need or healthy disability. So we stared with our cartons for ampoules. Than in 2015 the new product Arthro Elast were developed. After this we were going on with the capsules doses, where we replaced PET and opted for carton boxes. Finally we got to Api Boost.

FS: Can you describe a day in your life?
CP: As we are often on exhibitions and travelling around the world we are lucky to see different kinds of designs. Most important for me and us are colours. They open the doors into different worlds.

FS: Could you please share some pearls of wisdom for young designers? What are your suggestions to young, up and coming designers?
CP: Develop your own strategy with an open mind and great empathy for this world and your special customer. Be reflected and stay open minded.

FS: What is your "golden rule" in design?
CP: We are not inventors. Our products are evolution.

FS: What skills are most important for a designer?
CP: Empathy

FS: Designing can sometimes be a really time consuming task, how do you manage your time?
CP: Step by step steady going on.

FS: How long does it take to design an object from beginning to end?
CP: sometime a few weeks upto a few years. Everything is possible. Maybe we have an idea right now but than the process stops and later it continous.

FS: Who are some of your clients?
CP: Pharmacy Harrods London (UK), Kulm Pharmacy or BIO Natur (whole sale store) in St. Moritz (CH), bio-apo.de online-Pharmacy (Germany), Apitherapy-Pharmacy Marktapotheke in Alpirsbach (Germany), Prof. Prof. Dr. Mathias Kunth (environmental medicine in Germany and worldwide active)

FS: What type of design work do you enjoy the most and why?
CP: The best part is a free space where you can start from.

FS: Do you work as a team, or do you develop your designs yourself?
CP: In our company we design for ourselves in a team.

FS: How can people contact you?
CP: Over the homepage www.biobee.eu, exhibitions and courses or news papers.

FS: Thank you for providing us with this opportunity to interview you.
