Interview with Corentin Bricout at Wednesday 20th of February 2019 ![]() FS: Could you please tell us more about your art and design background? What made you become an artist/designer? Have you always wanted to be a designer? CB: I wanted to create things since I was a kid and finally decided to become a designer. I studied industrial design for 5 years. FS: Can you tell us more about your company / design studio? CB: I am now working as a designer in Kiska, designing both products, apparel, sometimes motorcycles parts and other very interesting projects. FS: What is "design" for you? CB: Design is not easy to explain but if I have to define it, I would say design is a way to give a sense to products. The design thinking is part of my life at any moment, paying attention to any detail around. FS: What kinds of works do you like designing most? CB: Footwear, apparel and any sport related product are my favorite things to design. FS: What was the first thing you designed for a company? CB: I designed perfume bottles during my first internship, after my first year of design studies. FS: What is your favorite material / platform / technology? CB: I don't have a favorite material but I do have a strong interest for materials in general, especially when designing soft goods. FS: When do you feel the most creative? CB: When I have fun and when I like what I do, definitely. FS: What kind of emotions do you feel when your designs are realized? CB: It's always a great feeling to see your own idea become real, especially when it is a product that I can use or wear myself. FS: What makes a design successful? CB: Depends which kind of product we are talking about. FS: When judging a design as good or bad, which aspects do you consider first? CB: What is the use ? Who is the target ? What is the context ? FS: From your point of view, what are the responsibilities of a designer for society and environment? CB: The designer's work can have a big impact on society and environment. It is essential to pay attention to the process and materials of a product or the interaction people will have with it, what could change and how, in order to make a change in the good way only. FS: How do you think the "design field" is evolving? What is the future of design? CB: I think the design field is following the big trends, getting more digital, making the environment one of the main priorities, etc.
