Interview with Wei Peng

Home > Designer Interviews > Wei Peng

Editor Frank Scott (FS) from DesignPRWire has interviewed designer Wei Peng (WP) for A’ Design Award and Competition. You can access the full profile of Wei Peng by clicking here.

Interview with Wei Peng at Friday 10th of May 2019

FS: Could you please tell us more about your art and design background? What made you become an artist/designer? Have you always wanted to be a designer?
WP: During my college years, I traveled in Finland, Sweden and other European countries for a month, and my love for European concise aesthetics made me determined to be a designer. So I started thinking about everything around me, from sticky notes to buildings. And become stylist truly when, it is to see a few wonderful designs, the heart is keen on heartache. It was like love at first sight.

FS: What is your "golden rule" in design?
WP: Ultimate aesthetics, aesthetics is about the external and internal. External is the first impression, need to control the packaging material, color, technology. Inside is the packaging structure, creating an outstanding sense of ritual, and use experience. One cannot do without the other.

FS: What skills are most important for a designer?
WP: Sense of beauty and crisis. Both are indispensable. The sense of beauty can control the sense and texture of the design. Usually, the design that is not restrained is most likely to get the creative plan and realize the maximization of commercial value. Crisis is the zero point of control design, excellent packaging design not only to solve the brand company's packaging defects, but also to break through the commodity channel appearance homogenization. Combine the two, the designer is likely to produce value.

FS: How long does it take to design an object from beginning to end?
WP: The design is divided into two parts: conception and design. The former takes 2 days to 2 months, while the latter takes about 5 days to half a month. Inspiration is the catalyst of design, the fastest day to do a good design. For me, inspiration is like a firefly at night. I will capture it immediately, record it and implement it immediately.

FS: Do you work as a team, or do you develop your designs yourself?
WP: Fully developed by myself, from design sketch to hand-drawn pattern, 3d effect modeling, to help customers contact the factory for proofing production. It is hard to master the whole picture from the beginning to the end.

FS: Do you have any works-in-progress being designed that you would like to talk about?
WP: Is designing a four seasons series lipstick, separately grabs the spring, summer, autumn and winter four elements, combines the jewelry luxurious concept. Looking for the ultimate constant beauty of a different lipstick on the market, more likely to tend to the concept design.

FS: Thank you for providing us with this opportunity to interview you.
