Interview with Esmail Ghadrdani at Wednesday 22nd of March 2023 FS: Could you please tell us more about your art and design background? What made you become an artist/designer? Have you always wanted to be a designer? EG: I am a graduate of industrial design. As a child, I was very interested in painting and spent a lot of time creating works of art. I have loved creating and enjoying it since I was a child. After graduation, I worked as a freelance designer and experienced product design. FS: What is "design" for you? EG: This may seem simple at first glance, but I believe that good design can communicate with the user and also a good design can make the world beautiful . FS: What kinds of works do you like designing most? EG: I like design in different fields and this can bring different experiences for me and it is enjoyable for me. but I like design in the field of children more . FS: What is your most favorite design, could you please tell more about it? EG: In general, design is enjoyable for me, but my specialty and favorite field is toys, and I like designing and working in the field of toys. FS: What was the first thing you designed for a company? EG: I remember the first time I did a stone toilet for a company. FS: What is your favorite material / platform / technology? EG: In fact, my favorite materials are natural materials such as wood, stone, etc. I have always loved wood and I have a special interest in it . FS: When do you feel the most creative? EG: After connecting with the subject, I enter a new challenge and new information is registered in my mind, which creates creativity in me. FS: Which aspects of a design do you focus more during designing? EG: Performance, productivity and beauty are important, but the most important part for me is problem solving, and problem solving is balancing these factors. FS: What kind of emotions do you feel when you design? EG: Happy and excited FS: What kind of emotions do you feel when your designs are realized? EG: The feeling of satisfaction for me after the project is realized is valuable and I feel like I did the design right. FS: What makes a design successful? EG: Certainly in a good design, important factors such as the innovative combination of forms, materials, technology, etc. are involved. In my opinion, responding to the needs of the user means the success of the design . FS: When judging a design as good or bad, which aspects do you consider first? EG: Well, the priorities in each design can be different, for example, in one design, performance may be the most important issue, and in another design, ergonomics, or even beauty, may be the issue of interest in a design. And I try to evaluate a design based on the priority of these aspects . And most importantly, I try to look at the design from the user's point of view and see how well it meets the needs. FS: From your point of view, what are the responsibilities of a designer for society and environment? EG: In my opinion, paying attention to the user's needs in design is one of the most important things. And a designer must first and foremost address these needs .In addition, attention to environmental issues can be significant. FS: When was your last exhibition and where was it? And when do you want to hold your next exhibition? EG: My last exhibition was held about 17 years ago, and I exhibited works of art and paintings there. I will definitely have an exhibition of my design works in the near future. FS: Where does the design inspiration for your works come from? How do you feed your creativity? What are your sources of inspirations? EG: Nature is my biggest source. In my opinion, everything exists in nature. form, beauty, etc., and nature is the greatest place where everything is created with elegance and beauty. FS: What is your "golden rule" in design? EG: Creativity and thinking differently FS: Which tools do you use during design? What is inside your toolbox? Such as software, application, hardware, books, sources of inspiration etc.? EG: I definitely use a pencil or pen to sketch in the early stages, and I utilize a wide range of software including 3dsmax, Rhinoceros, Substance painter, Zbrush and Photoshop. FS: Designing can sometimes be a really time consuming task, how do you manage your time? EG: I try to go ahead with a detailed plan and set a specific time for it, and I usually set a separate time for each stage of the design, with which I can manage my time relatively well. However, sometimes unpredictable things can happen to me in the design process, which I try to control with careful planning. FS: How long does it take to design an object from beginning to end? EG: This is not a fixed time and is different for each project, depending on the design topic. FS: Do you have any works-in-progress being designed that you would like to talk about?
