Editor Frank Scott (FS) from DesignPRWire has interviewed designer Cheng-Wei Kao (CK) for A’ Design Award and Competition. You can access the full profile of Cheng-Wei Kao by clicking here.

Interview with Cheng-Wei Kao at Saturday 2nd of November 2019
Cheng-Wei(Beck) Kao
FS: Could you please tell us more about your art and design background? What made you become an artist/designer? Have you always wanted to be a designer?
CK: I have a background of engineer and design dual education, so I always developed my design from such solid manufacturing feasibilities. And I also combined as much as possible for my personal Easter eggs in my works, which always came from pop culture or personal habits.

FS: Can you tell us more about your company / design studio?
CK: I am currently working in a STEM toy company in Taiwan, where we produced functional/movable toy for kids worldwidely. Such toys would combine natural energy, coding, mechanism, logics or many education elements for kids.

FS: What is "design" for you?
CK: For me, I think design is a compromised bridge between artistry and casual audience. As a designer, creating something artistic and personal for myself and turning them into such acceptable medium for users, is my design definition.

FS: What kinds of works do you like designing most?
CK: toys/comics.

FS: What is your favorite material / platform / technology?
CK: wood.

FS: When do you feel the most creative?
CK: after reading.

FS: Which aspects of a design do you focus more during designing?
CK: manufacturing feasibility

FS: What kind of emotions do you feel when your designs are realized?
CK: a little bit of happiness, like a minor chord got played inside my body.

FS: What makes a design successful?
CK: eye catching.

FS: How would you describe your design style? What made you explore more this style and what are the main characteristics of your style? What's your approach to design?
CK: colorful, bold, and simplicity/

FS: How can people contact you?
CK: via email.

FS: Thank you for providing us with this opportunity to interview you.
