FS: Could you please tell us more about your art and design background? What made you become an artist/designer? Have you always wanted to be a designer?
PW: After graduating from the Hallo Academy for applied creativity (2010), Pia developed herself as an autodidact designer. Her work is shaped by two values. Minimalism and fun. Work that manifests itself into simple, pure designs with a playful twist.In 2015 she started the process of product design in her Amsterdam based studio, which resulted in the first line of kids focused products in 2016: the Iconic Rockers. A modern twist on a classic toy. In 2018 the Iconic Cloud rocker received the Platinum A'Design Award.
FS: Can you tell us more about your company / design studio?
PW: Maison Deux is a Dutch interior & lifestyle brand for kids and their parents. Founded to design fun, minimalist products for contemporary homes. All our products are crafted in Europe, made from high-quality materials that last for generations. Simple and iconic products with a playful twist.
FS: What is "design" for you?
PW: Design
FS: What was the first thing you designed for a company?
PW: As an autodidact designer Pia started with her global recognized Iconic Rockers. A family of rocking horses, consisting of a cloud, moon, watermelon and bowler hat.
FS: What is your favorite material / platform / technology?
PW: Pia loves to play with high quality, natural materials such as solid wood, stone and wool.
