Interview with Xiaoying Huang at Tuesday 14th of August 2018 FS: Could you please tell us more about your art and design background? What made you become an artist/designer? Have you always wanted to be a designer? XH: I have been studying in art school since I was a child. I have been loving drawing and art and music since I was a child. It is natural for me to become a designer. FS: Can you tell us more about your company / design studio? XH: There are not many people in my design studio, only 8-9 people. I hope to design with less but better, small and beautiful. I hope our design feelings can support us to insist on doing thoughtful, valuable, temperature design. FS: What is "design" for you? XH: Design can make us a better and better person. In the process of design and implementation, we can encounter various people and things. At the same time, we can experience many beautiful and delicate things and witness the continuous growth of ourselves and works. FS: What kinds of works do you like designing most? XH: I prefer the natural and pure space design, which can be rich in creativity without losing the true nature, the rationality and creativity of space design and the sustainable continuation of space story, without too many complex symbols, simple and classic eternal. It's gonna be more like that. FS: What is your most favorite design, could you please tell more about it? XH: Favorite piece is John parsons' Moritzkirche. In his opinion, the proportion of space light plus materials is the whole design, which does not need complicated words, and does not need gorgeous ornamentation. When the content of a work is reduced to the minimum of the perfect feeling emanating from it, and when all the components, all the details, and all the connections of the object are reduced to the essence, he will have the properties of minimalism, which is the result of the removal of non-essential elements. FS: What was the first thing you designed for a company? XH: What was the first thing you did for the company? Create a simple and clean environment that establishes the emotional connection between the employee and the space. FS: What is your favorite material / platform / technology? XH: My favorite material is wood, and my favorite platform is Pinterest. FS: When do you feel the most creative? XH: When you come back from a trip and end a trip, it's the most creative. FS: Which aspects of a design do you focus more during designing? XH: People-oriented, I pay more attention to the relationship between people and space materials. Design originates from life and serves people. In the design process, I pay more attention to the pleasure brought by design. FS: What kind of emotions do you feel when you design? XH: There's a lot of confusion, there's a lot of interlacing of ideas. FS: What kind of emotions do you feel when your designs are realized? XH: Like a child born in October. FS: What makes a design successful? XH: What you've been through, what you've seen, what you've failed。 FS: When judging a design as good or bad, which aspects do you consider first? XH: Rationality and comfort. FS: From your point of view, what are the responsibilities of a designer for society and environment? XH: It is a great responsibility that he can make a hell or a heaven. FS: How do you think the "design field" is evolving? What is the future of design? XH: The future of design is the age of big data and is closely related to intelligence. FS: When was your last exhibition and where was it? And when do you want to hold your next exhibition? FS: Where does the design inspiration for your works come from? How do you feed your creativity? What are your sources of inspirations? XH: Design inspiration comes from life, such as travel, music, exhibition, and various experiences to feed your creativity. The inspiration comes from music, music, painting, poetry and tea. FS: How would you describe your design style? What made you explore more this style and what are the main characteristics of your style? What's your approach to design? FS: What are your suggestions to companies for working with a designer? How can companies select a good designer? XH: 21、Liberal, democratic and open, but not haphazard. FS: Could you please share some pearls of wisdom for young designers? What are your suggestions to young, up and coming designers? XH: Design needs to be savvy, solid basic skills, as well as rich experience accumulation of young designers important. FS: From your perspective, what would you say are some positives and negatives of being a designer? XH: You can implement yourself after the design process. Some difficult problems in the design process will affect themselves. FS: What is your "golden rule" in design? XH: Design can give works more design aesthetic, pleasant to the eye. FS: What is the most frequently asked question to you, as a designer? XH: Whether reasonable, whether need, whether beautiful. FS: What was your most important job experience? XH: During my first internship, I did all kinds of things, big and small. FS: Who are some of your clients? XH: Famous entrepreneurs, doctors, bankers. FS: What type of design work do you enjoy the most and why? XH: Design works in modern style. Classics never go out of fashion. FS: What are your future plans? What is next for you? XH: Make the design company strong and perfect. I hope to make more perfect works and give back to the society. FS: Do you work as a team, or do you develop your designs yourself? XH: Both teamwork and open design. FS: Do you have any works-in-progress being designed that you would like to talk about?
